Hi all

I saw this article in my Facebook feed this morning and I had a little chuckle.

I didn't think that the issue was funny: I reckon that CrossFit will be durable compared to Zumba as they both have different aims. What I found funny was the thought that popped into my head where @Scott_Herman will become the new Richard Simmons to the masses.

Do you think that CrossFit's a fad in the same way that Zumba, et. al. is/was?

Cheers

Do you have a link to the article @philflorey?

Crossfit, when you think about it, has been around for AGES given it is basically circuit training. So I don't think it is going anywhere any time soon.

Zumba is different because of it's reliance on music and DVDs and stuff. Where as crossfit is just a different way of working with weights, body weights. And it's actually turning into a professional sport, I think I remember hearing they want to try and make it an Olympic sport.

I agree, Jordan (@JoeHurricane). I think that CrossFit isn't a fad in the same way that Zumba, etc. is.

Well in the "general community" I think it actually wil be. People that are casually working out and not very seriouswith their goals will jump on any fad wagon. The reason for that is simple, the majority of people do not know exactly what to do to reach their goals.

For people that know what to do, crossfit is just another way to workout, thus not a fad but a choice. I have tried crossfit and use some of the WODs because I think they are really challenging and good overall.

Yeah they say in five years it will be gone basically, no longer talked about...I don't know about that. It's hard to say really.

But it also talks about how yoga is still popular because it keeps changing. Cross fit will probably do that too because you can always use different exercises with it.

I agree with what you too @William_Steinset. It's more of a choice than a fad.

I don't see Crossfit sticking around too much longer due to the amount of injuries people get left and right. Also many in the fitness industry look down on it not only because of injuries but also because of the lack of form that is used for many of the lifts. Hey to each their own but I have no interest in Crossfit for many reasons. These being just a few but it is fading away, or at least it's not near as popular as it used to be.

I have been training coming up on 6 years and have made some great gainz. I've done a lot of trial and error on myself as well as learned from others and through research online. I've come along way in strength and size since I've started. I will continue to learn and make myself better each day. I get your point here. I think that many people who do crossfit could simply need a long class in form. However I see that this is not the case with everyone in the sport. If you look at the crossfit games for instance with people like Rich Froning it is clear that the sport is not completely "wrong". I actually enjoy doing some crossfit style workouts such as 30 clean and jerks for time. I am most likely never going to get fully emerged into crossfit. Nevertheless I like the style that the sport offers. Obviously the pull up form that they use is not something I would want to do.

oh---my---god... ich just watched that article and the videos of Richard Simmons... what on earth did i just look at?

Was that guy born on the Real Life Loveboat or something? Perfect trainer for retirement homes? help!!!

Generally i think i have my own perception of what "crossfit" actually is.. and what it had been "before" some fitness industry giants have given it a new face and marketing, which - in my humble opinion - would be to be good at certain aspects, in regards to weightligfting as well as functional movements and athletics. To combine power, endurance, strength, speed. And as practiced in the training for many sports too.

Thus i contemplate to the "real" crossfit to be around just as long as people work out. And just as long as people try to master a wider variety of fitness, as well as people exist that only concentrate into one particular sector of fitness. =)

Hello Guys,

I know I've been away for quite a while but let me tell something about what I feel about crossfit. For me, it was just over rated but really it is something that we can do anytime, anywhere and because people uses this for money they invented new exercises and routines that sometimes can be dangerous because all they wanted is to make people believe that it is something new and it is the correct way to workou but its not always the case!

For as long as you are eating right, always challenging yourself with your exercises like adding more reps, cutting your rest time, adding a bit weight or adding some speed, you will certainly improve.

My fitness style today is not as intense as before but I never enjoyed it this much. Everytime I workout today, I treat it as my "me time" especially when running. So my point is it doesn't matter if crossfit is a fad or not. What really matters is that we are doing something that we enjoy and we are getting better and better!!
