Hi everyone

For some months now I have been focussed on my diet and keeping to my macros.

Bescause I work, I usally cook up a batch of meals in sperate tubs, which usually consists of some rice or sweet potato, some meat and some vegetables (though sometimes currys, chilli etc) and then stick them in the freezer. I pull out two meals per day and whack them in the microwave until hot.

It really works for me but I was wondering if there is any harm in freezing food in this way and if anyone feels negatively about consuming a large number of meals heated in the microwave?

Thanks a lot!

I do not see a problem in it.

There is nothing wrong with freezing food. I do the same tbh, have a batch cooking session then freeze it.

Make sure your using good quality, fresh produce to start with and you will be ok. When heating make sure it's hot right through. 👍

No problem with that man.

I have actually just started pre-cooking myself this week.

As long as you don't freeze it, defrost it, and then freeze it again, it's all good.

I do the opposite apprach.  I buy in bulk  say a giant pork tenderloin.  Cut it up and season it.  the use my foodsaver to vacum seal it 3-4 pork chops at a time then freeze them.   When i cook its for 3-5 days at a time so i take the chickn, pork or steak of of freezer the day before  let thaw on table then put in fridge till i cook alter that day. then with the 10 meals ive made all individual containers i have in cooler so it takes me 2 min in microwave to heat and eat lol.  and if i dont wanna wait ill eat it cold

Olly,

There is nothing wrong with doing this. However, do not reheat the food in the microwave using plastic tubs. Put them in a glass bowl or on a ceramic plate. All plastics contain a chemical called Bisphenol A or BPA. This chemical can leach into your food when the plastic is heated. BPA is a powerful hormonal disrupter and mimics estrogen in the body as well as screws with testosterone levels. This is obviously not a good scenario if you are a man. It has also been linked to other hormonal disorders. This only happens when plastic is heated not frozen. So use plastic to store the food in the freezer or refrigerator but do not use them in the microwave.

Thanks John - that is kind of worrying! I did choose microwave safe containers but I guess you would have concerns even over these?

I will have to rethink how I do it as most of the time the food goes in teh microwave frozen so not easy to remove from the plastic container in the first place!

Thanks for the advice though!

"Microwave safe" is a bit misleading. All it means is that the amount of BPA that can leach into your food will be reduced but not eliminated. Plastic is plastic and high heat can lead to chemical leaching. You could always let the food thaw a little first before you try to take it out of the plastic container. Then you can use glass or ceramics.
