Hey, i asked about thise before long time ago, but after getting on the training again, after the school is ended, and the Summer is comming, i was woundering if you guys could help me out

Well like that time, it's about my Chest first at all, my Left chest is some how bigger that my Right, and i tryed BB Bench, and Cable flyes, but somehow, whenever i do BB, it's feels like my Right arm, is not connected to my Body, i can feel the pump, and then i like lose my arm, because it like just dies.

I have been doing alot of sports i min life, and my hole body is fucked up, strength and size, but right now i am in focus on my Chest, because im "Okay" skinny, i weight about 69KG, and 183cm High im 16. and it seems can i really can't gain any mass on my body, i got very "visible" bones showing on my Body, and it creeps me out , because my hole body looks great

My Friend Martin have been during Push Ups for 6 Months before he began in the fitness, and he got a really nice Chest and good looking Arms, just small Biceps :P he hit more that 350 Push ups in a row, and his chest did'ten grow anymore.

So i was woundering if i did Push ups, would my chest not get "fixet" fast, ofcause i will do my normally Chest workout in the Gym, but was thinking about doing as many pushups every day or so

Jesper,

First off, are you left or right handed? Some muscle asymmetries are due to one side being stronger and "dominant" versus the other side. Second, have you tried doing dumbell chest work. BB bench press is a great chest exercise but it allows the strong side to compensate for the weak side since they are "joined" by the bar. Dumbells force each side to work independently thus the weak side can not be assisted by the strong side. They also stress more pectoral fibers because your chest has to not only raise the weight but also keep the weight from falling to the side. BB is great for mass as you can add much more weight on the bar. DBs are great for overall chest development and to fix any muscle or strength deficiencies.

You may also want to try supersets and drop sets to stimulate growth. You could superset DB bench press with push-ups, for instance. You could also do a drop set where you start with the heaviest weight you can do for 8-10 clean reps then immediately lower the weight 3 more times doing 8-10 reps each time without any rest between sets.

if your one arm is just dying on you it might have something to do with your endurance in that 1 arm, or you might just have a bad mind to muscle connection and focus more on the intensity of the workout than anything else... so here is my fix it quick scheme, your chest workout from now on will be nothing other than cable or dumbell flys... grab a bench that can go decline flat and incline... put it to the lowest and pick a weight you can do around 15 reps for, do them nice and controled, taking 15-45 seconds rest inbetween sets, once you get the bench to flat, which should be 3-4 notches or sets, if it gets to flat before then keep it below flat till you hit 4 sets then once its at flat, rest for 90-120 seconds, carry on till you're just below full incline, rest for another 90-120 seconds then go all the way back down to flat, then do an isometric hold at the top (hands just wider than shoulders) then in the middle then at the bottom, always keeping tension on your chest for any amount of time from 10-30 seconds, target to increase the amount of time you can hold this for, rather than increasing the amount of weight you can do the flys with for the workout, this will build up a much better mind to muscle connection and destroy any chance of a dominant side taking over for the workout, make sure you have a spotter for this workout and know how to bail out if a fly is going south... if you catch my drift, personally i broke my shoulder so i do all my dumbell flys on the floor just to always make sure my form is perfect for that motion, tends to keep me in sync for the neitre workout ahead, plus it should give you some nice shape to your chest, after the first month or so though you should get stronger, this is the only time i want you to increase the weight and that is only by 2-4kgs, you will feel stronger because of your neurological response, you will feel weaker after increasing the weight but guess what... if you fight through it this is the time you start making GAINS, after the first month... when you feel at your weakest you have the best chance of turning it all around and becoming something great, good luck

lots of great information here from @jmboiardi and @wilkinson207

It sounds like to me that you are just a beginner and have yet to really develope that mind/muscle connection which comes in time.

My advice would be to continue working your chest with dumbbells / barbells and have your friend spot you. Don't go as heavy as you can just yet. Focus on sets of 12 - 15 reps with "medium" weight and REALLY focus on isolating your chest "pump" while you press the weight up. Also, focus on CONTROL while you bring the weight down on every rep!

try this routine.

just focus on YOUR intensity level.

Since I'm kinda "new" to weight training myself, I also suggest looking at the "chest" portion of Scott's earlier video (Max. Growth - June 2013), using DB's (as John suggested above). I don't always have the luxury of a spotter, so I feel a bit "insecure" doing burn / drop sets with a BB..and as John mentioned with DB's you do get some "additional" benefits which may assist in fixing your imbalance.

Here's the link--this is what I sometimes do on a "chest" day and it helped me make gains pretty quickly (make sure you concentrate on SLOW negatives) :

Good Luck!

Hey Sir John,

I have a silly question . In performing Bench press using BB but let say I'm right handed. Since BB allows the strong arm to compensate more than the weaker arm and with BB is great to gain mass because it can allow us to add much weight and with DB we can perform the FULL ROM much efficient than BB right? Here's my question Sir, Is it possible or not dangerous for a lifter using BB if he is going to lessen the strength of his strong arm so that the weaker arm can compensate more when he press the weight up?

Jesper,

To answer your question, the answer is "no". By using a BB and using a weight the weaker side can handle versus the stronger side, you force the weaker side to get stronger. The strong side does not get weaker. Once both sides can handle the same weight with ease, you raise the weight. This is what prevents muscle imbalances and builds even strength. This is why you always set the weight limit based on your "weakest link" when you are trying to fix strength or size imbalances. Eventually, your body grows and gets strong evenly so the process of raising the weight gets easier :-) I am going thru this right now. My left arm is not as strong as my right arm when curling now after my bicep tear. When I train arms, I base the weight on what my left arm can handle even if it is relatively easy for my right arm. My left arm strength is back to about 90% and rising and the muscle size is returning. It is just down to time and patience.

Hey.... It's Mike not Jesper

Ohh yeah I agree with you. When using BB and DB I base the weight on what my left can lift. Oh we have the same situation then :-)

And here is another problem for me. I'm about to rest in weight lifting for 6 months and my training now is just doing body weight. Aside from eating right.. how can I maintain my strength in weight lifting? I know I going to lose maybe half of my strength when I get back on weight training. I'm just wondering if there is another way in order for me to maintain at least 60 or 70% of my physical strength. =)

Doh!! Sorry Mike :-)

You don't need to lose most of your strength. If you do body weight exercises, super sets, and isometric tension, you should keep most of your strength and size. Try super setting push-ups with isometric tension chest presses. Do bicep and tricep isometric tension exercises together. Scott has some videos on this for tips on how to workout when traveling or not having access to a gym. Bruce Lee was incredibly strong for his size. He was not an avid weight lifter but he did tons of isometric and body weight exercises.

Hey man! Maybe I missed something. Why are you not going to hit the gym?

Ever thought of doing more calisthenics to maintain strength?
