Dear All,

im trying to do swimming as part of my cardio exercise but i am wondering if i do that, will it prohibit my muscle growth after 1hr-1.30hr workout from the gym? the reason im worry about this is because i read somewhere where it says we should let the muscle rest after workout for the muscle to grow and recover.

Please kindly advice me. Thank you

If you do about 1-2 hr weightlifting session and then go for a swim for another hour you will have to eat a good amount of calories to support that. With that said, what does your macros look like ? You didn't mention anything about how long the swim lasts. how many days a week are we talking about ? How many days a week do you workout ?

Oh man you need to create a mealplan, if you want to swim everyday and weightlift 5 days a week, that is a total of 12 workouts a week. To say it like this, unless you are a really good eater and have no problems forcing down 4000 - 6000 calories a day, there is no way you are going to gain muscle with 12 sessions a week. If you do this without any idea of how many calories you consume, within a month you will lose alot of fat, muscle and overall weight. Watch this video to get started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZjxWqwoWTg Other than that, don't workout 12 times a week... that is not what you want to be doing to gain muscle.

Hey man, how's things?

I can see the dilema you have here

I would recommend you stick to this rule of thumb:

• If you are going to the gym to build muscle and add size, let your muscles rest after the workout and get a good post workout meal in as well. Swimming is a great cardio exercise and burns a lot of calories however, for building muscle, you might not want this as you will have to increase your calories as a result

• If you go to the gym just to improve your overall level of fitness and activity, it will do no harm to go swimming post workout

Id also be very careful going swimming after a heavy workout. You could injure your joints as they are fatigued and vunerable.

Hope this small bit of insight helps you

Remember, its all about your goals.

Regards

Declan

Depending on how hard you push youself while swimming , i would do my swim before lifting,

reason for this is that when your lifting your warmed up and oxygen is allready pumping through your muscles

as swimming is a incredible full body exersize and will ready you body for the pain your about to put it through

the idea is to push your muscles to failure after warming them up, not raping them after making them fail.

Swimming after lifting weights is definitly a bad idea if your trying to build muscle, esspecially if you swim hard.

and always stretch your ahoulders out well before swimming if your gna start your workout for swimming.

You also have to make sure you consume enough calories to make up for what your burning off while swimming , whether

it be before or after .

Anthony thanx for the great site Scott.
