I've heard that sugar is extremely bad, because it can increase your insulin. So can protein too, but sugar has more negative effects compared to protein.

I notice that the Fage Fat Free Greek Yogurt I get has 9g of sugar per serving. I plan to add more fats in my diet, so probably two or three servings of this at 27g of sugar?

Is this bad on my stomach and diet? Also is this sugar bad for my skin too for acne, if any of you can answer this?

Also, is the sugar in blueberries bad too? I don't include fruits in my diet because of this, because from what I read and believe personally, I think sugar in fruits is basically just natural fructose but still fructose? Better to get the fiber and vitamins from vegetables, is this right?

Sugar in natural fruits and berries... bad ? No not at all. Sugar from yoghurt ? No not really bad unless you eat way to much of it. Sugar from candy, crisps and other UNATURAL products, bad ? Yes.

Natural food with a natural amount of sugar is far from unhealthy. I have no idea where you have been reading this, but the day you belive that sugar from something as natural as fruit is bad for you is the day where you need to read some actual facts.

William,

The only thing that affects insulin is glucose - not protein and not fats. All carbohydrates have a glycemic index (GI) which measures the insulin response to the food. They also have a glycemic load (GL) which measures how much glucose they produce. Pure sugar has a GI of 64 and a GL of 100. The lower both numbers the lower the insulin response the better the food. Fruits like blueberries have a GI of 35. When you eat fruit, the fiber in the fruit slows the absorption of the fructose which gets converted to glucose in the liver. This is why its GI is low. Fruit juice, even if it is 100% pure, has a GI closer to 90. Why? Because there is no fiber to slow the digestion of the fructose so it goes straight to the liver which converts it into glucose and pumps it into your blood. So, whole fruit = good, fruit juice = bad for insulin.

Yogurt is great if it is unsweetened. It is better to buy plain yogurt and put whole fruit in it than buy the flavored stuff. The flavored yogurt has too much simple sugar and therefore will have a negative impact on your insulin levels. If I were you, I would buy unflavored Greek Yogurt (great source of protein and micronutrients) and add in fresh blueberries or the fruit of your choice. That is something you can eat each morning and not need to worry about your insulin :-)

I have fresh and frozen blueberries in all the time, also mixed frozen fruit. I also buy a couple of tubs of natural low fat Greek yoghurt a week. Add the blueberries to the yoghurt and BOOM!! Awesomeness!!!! I have stopped buying the flavoured stuff now....I can highly recommend it.

Blueberries are also good with porridge too.

I have a cup of plain greek yogurt, scoop of all natural chocolate whey protein, 10-frozen blueberries, and a half serving of slivered almonds mixed all together every night. I can tell you this, it has been part of my regimen lately that has helped me to lose the lower-belly fat, curb my sweet tooth, and quite filling and not to mention, taste great!!

Blueberries are power houses when it comes to antioxidants.

Lol, me to! But I use skinny yoghurt. Sometimes I mixed not only whey but also unsalted nuts or oats to it....

By the way, I use never sugar anymore.... ;-)
