What is a spotter and why should I use one?

By Scott Herman in General Questions · Published

A spotter is somebody who can help you while you are working out.

Sometimes it seems impossible to complete the final REP of a set. To push yourself to your limits and ensure you achieve all or your desired reps, a spotter's job is to help lift the weight.

Generally your spotter should only barely have to touch the bar. Just using their fingertips ensures you conquer most of the rep. A spotter should then let you lower the weight alone.

If you don't have a training partner at the gym, simply ask someone else nearby to spot you.
