Hello!

My wife and I have recently gotten back into the gym after a super long break. We have been lifting light and trying to get ourselves ready to do the push-pull program Scott made. I have experience bulking successfully, but taking a break made us both gain some unwanted body fat.

My wife has never been into bodybuilding, she mostly focused on cardio to stay healthy before taking the break. Now that we are getting back into it, she is interested in bodybuilder-style lifts since that is what I am doing. She wants to put some muscle on her legs and booty while also burning off some upper body weight.

We plan on eating about 200-400 calories less than we burn per day (which will probably take some consistent eating and playing around with the macro and calorie number) and doing the push-pull program.

I guess my question is whether or not this is as good of a workout plan for women as it is for men (since I know it is good for men). I don't see why not, but maybe someone here has some extra tips for the lady bodybuilders?

@NaterS Hey Nathan! That's awesome to hear you and your wife are going to train together and are going to attack the PPL program! Love it!

It's definitely a program that both males and females can do. She'll be able to gain muscle from it just like a male could! Obviously with women having lower testosterone than men (as a general rule of thumb) she's not likely to build as much muscle, but she will still build muscle with it.

But one thing to think about is that if you both want to use this program to build muscle, your best bet is to do it in a calorie surplus. Your wife might be able to make some newbie gains and still gain muscle while in a slight calorie deficit, but it's still going to be more succesful if done in a slight calorie surplus!
