As usual, consuming things in good measures won't do much harm.

It's rather a problem when you take it in daily and in higher doses.

Soy beans comtain genistein and daidzein. These are so similar to estrogen that they are categorized as phytoestrogens. Which is a plant produced estrogen.

So of course if you take them in big amounts you might risk collecting some unwanted fat layers and maybe even risk growing some small man-boobs.

And it also obviously depends from what region of the earth you come. Asian people consume way more soy products than we do, and are mostly fairly sleek. And not every asian man is carrying manboobs. Having had soybeans in their diet over the course of many centuries their bodies usually digest it better and they are also more adapted.

Soymilk is a very concentrated product so rather could inflict said phenomena when taken in considerable amounts over a longer period. Whilst adding some soybeans to a dish won't grow you instant man boobs.

I agree with Chris - everything in moderation. Consuming Edamame is fine. I would totally avoid soy milk. It is all about balance and if you are not getting enough healthy fats, espcially saturated fats, and cholesterol in your diet your testosterone and growth hormone levels will decrease. If you take in too much exogenous estrogen-like foods (like soy and soy milk) and have reduced testosterone levels, you could increase your risk for gyno and increased body fat and reduced lean mass.

The evidence is rather mixed on soy's effect on estrogen. It has phytoestogens yes, but it has a rather weak affinity for receptors; hence, why it's not always useful for post-menopause. On the flip side, soy is generally not advised for cancer patients who have tumors fuled by estrogen, but again, there's not much evidence for soy perpetuating cancer growth... So, basically what I'm saying is organic soy is fine, but I wouldn't go nuts with it. If anything, it's the GMO aspect that is my bigger issue.

Good point. Soy, corn, and wheat are big GMO crops in the U.S. GMO is total bullshit and Monsanto et al should be made to serve it to their families and employees before it is given to the general public.
