As im starting to come closer to the "end" of my diet im trying to make food in bulk and store in the fridge. But as a kitchen newbie i have no idea how long anything will actually last after i cook it? Got food poisining from old chicken once and im terrified of getting that again. Is there any rule of thumb or is it different for every type of food.

I usually finish up my chicken breast in 4 days. I did 5 days once. Don't know about other foods since that's the only thing I cook in bulk

Andy,

General rule of thumb is cooked meats should be kept no longer than 4 days befor eating. Uncooked meat and fish should be cooked within 2 days. Things like reshly juiced vegetables or fruits must be consumed the day they are made as they are not pasteurized.

If you're worried about it not lasting in the fridge, prepare it and then put it in the freezer.

The day before you are due to eat it, take it out of the freezer and let it defrost. Things last a lot longer when frozen.
