hi guys i have been going to gym for 3 monts now and have compleated a 12 week begginer program i am looking at a 3 and 4 day split i like the idea of the 4 day doing upper and lower 2 times a week but it seems to be more general musle groups so shold i stick to a routine like this and if so how long untill i move to a more intermedit routine

Hey Tom,

Nobody said that this is a beginner routine. It can be used by advanced athletes as well. This program allows you to hit your muscles twice per week which is excellent for gains. If you mean that an intermediate program is something like a 5 day split that only lets you hit your muscles once per week, then its a bad program :)

An upper/lower split is a good idea, although you have one more option for a 4 day split and that is a push/pull split.

So on your push days you re doing Chest/Triceps/Shoulders/Quads/Glutes

And on your pull days you re doing Back/Biceps/Traps/Hamstrings/Calves

Makes more sense if you ask me.

The only reason to ever change a routine is if you stop making good gains with it. You dont necessarily change routines when you get to "intermediate" level. You can adjust this routine and make it harder by adding drop sets, super sets or even doing the exercises in a circuit without rests.
