Hi Scott,

I read the below when I checked the Whey protein powder that I use on labdoor.com. What's your opinion, please ?

"These products contain lead and mercury chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

The above statement is required to be posted by California Law. The results in this report reflect only the LOT that was tested by Labdoor."

Thanks

This is the over zealous socialist government in CA in action. All supplements have low levels of heavy metals in them from the production process and from the source ingredients. Since supplements are not regulated by the FDA, some supplement companies have "dirtier" products than others and some don't follow USP best practices for manufacturing. The State of CA uses this warning to prevent frivolous lawsuits if someone uses the supplement and later down the road finds out they have an illness and the doctors believe it is due to lead or mercury exposure. Labdoor.com is an independent organization residing in CA. The State of CA requires certain warning labels to be used for certain products - like cigarettes, etc. Supplements fall into some of these categories. They use this warning for some varieties of fish as well since some have higher natural mercury counts than others. CA is just a state that goes above and beyond others for consumer warnings.

At the end of the day, the better quality the supplement and company the less this is an issue. I stick with Optimum Nutrition (which is also owned by the same company that owns BSN). They both produce high quality, "cleaner" supplements. Price is also a good determinant. The higher the price, more often than not the better quality the supplement. Most supplements have levels within EPA guidelines for human exposure.
