I too am a home gymer and I have just about all the freeweight equipment you could ask for. I do not however have access to any cable machine. I need exercise substitution recommendations for Low-To-High Cable Fly, and V-Bar Pushdown (or rope. Skull crushers are already earlier in the routine so I can't use those. Any advice would be appreciated!!

I've seen people do the low to high cable fly with dumbbells. Or you could use resistance bands if you have any.

Daniel, Do flyes with dumbbells. It doesn't matter whether you use cables, dumbbells, or a pec deck - the motion is the same. If you have a bench that can adjust its seat back height, you can do flat and incline flyes. Decline chest work is a waste of time and not needed if you train chest correctly. As for tricep V pushdowns, substitute with seated behind the neck dumbbell presses. You don't need to exactly mimic cable exercises with free weights. Dips will be the #1 best tricep exercise as well. Focus on the movements best for each muscle that utilize free weights. Cable machine based exercises are overrated and are better as finishers. When in doubt, you should always pick a free weight movement over a cable or machine movement. John

Thanks for the input guys!!! I ended up doing flys with the same form as you would with cables only I used dumbbells. The force it placed on the muscle was probably a little different than if I had done it with cables but it still felt good! I was worried that seated behind the neck dumbbell presses would be too similar to skullcrushers earlier in the set but because of the different angle the stress was different enough to use. Yes John, I too am a HUGE believer in freeweight only use but like you said I do like SOME cable exercises for finishers and very specific muscle targeting. Thanks again for the responses guys.
