When I have more money I am thinking of joining one of these gyms. Right now I am dropping out of Planet Fitness, and saving some money for wedding and better gym membership. They both seem like good solid gyms, but LA Fitness was one big sales pitch after another when I visited and its reviews say personal training is lousy. Gold's gym looks like a good place, but the sales person wasn't there when I went, so I'm not quite sure. Which one of these chains would you all say is better?

Just look on yelp and ask to take a tour of the gym. See which one has more of the equipment you like using, and which has the better price. See if they have any of those free guest passes online so that you can test out the gym for yourself. Sometimes the gym is great, but the people that workout there are assholes.

And watch Scott's videos if the trainers are lousy.

Definitely a good point. I will certainly test them out. And I do watch Scott's videos for form and advice, great stuff. I often find though that even when I think I'm making good form and intend to do good form, I don't always. It would be good to have a trainer who can make sure I'm not cheating, hence why I'm looking into their programs. I was interested in getting opinions on the two gym chains. Which one do people find is better? La Fitness or Gold's Gym?

i can't give an opinion about either or as we don't have thema round here. But if anyone is in my area: Fitness World is a great chain. Surprisingly for the really low price you get great quality, cleanliness, and everything from free weights to barbells to power racks to pullup bar areas to gymnistic rings, to machines etc.. they get from me a huge *thumbs up* and i hope i never have to leave them and they never change lol ^^

I've never been to either of them, but I have heard a lot of good things about Gold's Gym...I mean, it was good enough for Arnold :P haha.
