Who here has ever looked up there golden ratio?

If yes? who uses it as a goal and whats your ratio and how close are you?

If no? because you dont use it and dont care. then feel free to tell what your goals are :)

If no because you dont know what it is below is a link with 1 explanation   there mutiples and tons of them so i researched 5 and found that 99% of them match or are close within .5 inch

this is just an example    http://www.muscleforlife.com/ideal-male-body/

Example me

Height:              6' 1"

Wrist size:          7.5 inch

Ankle size:         10 inch

Knee size:          17.5 inch

My golden ratio would be

using wrist only                   using wrist and ankle           were im at

Chest:         48.75                                   same                      Way over

Neck:          18.04                                   same                      Way over

Arm:           17.55                                   18.75                            18.5

Thigh:         25.84                                   29                                 30

Shoulders:   55.21                                   Same                       Way over

Waist:         34.13                                   Same                       Way over

Forarm:       14.14                                   14.63                            14

Calf:            16.58                                   18.75                            18.75

Hip:             41.44                                   Same                        Way over

Body fat %     9                                       Same                        Way over

Fat                 21                                     Same                        Way over

Lean             189                                     Same                        Way over

Weight          210                                     Same                        Wayt over

I found that when you use the fomulas that factor in ankle and knees and parts of the leg they came back with bigger results for the legs because it does a more detail calculation

makes sense if you think about it  if its only going off your ankle and your knees and ankles are bigger than everage and you aim for the smaller thigh and calf it would be weird to see

I kinda go by those. But I don't really remember my measurements from the calculators and end up not worrying too much about the proportions.

I use these two Greek proportion calculators. I don't know if that's the same as the golden ratio.

I love this tool. When I did it, I was right where I needed to be for a wrist size of 6.5" :-) I don't know how applicable it is to natural bodybuilding shows and if these measurements are what the judges would look for but they are provide great targets. I am hoping so as they really do define the type of symmetry found in nature :-)

The other metric I try for is what Steve Reeves outlined where your neck, biceps, and calves are the same size. So far my neck and biceps are spot on but my calves are an inch off. Some other ideal metrics are your shoulders should be 1.618 times your waist size and your quads should be about 52% of your chest size which again I meet to a T. All of these are great yardsticks but at the end of the day it comes down to conditioning (low body fat) and symmetry for naturals versus all these and massive size for the anabolically assisted.

thats what they say the goldenr atio is  1.618   hips to be 1.168 bigger than waist and forarms to biceps and calfs to thigh.   all the diff formulas out there are all intertwined together

i belive since it was the greeks/romans who figured this out it is all natural

as for professional body building i would belive they would look for the 1.168 becauyse theres research other there that says people were voted more physcially attactive the closer they were to the ratio withouht telling the voters why  they just showed shirtless pics and had people vote.

i think the vote for women was guys liked them with a slightly higher body fat% around like 14-20%but the women ratio is diff i havent studdied into that oneas much.  there hourglass shape and breast and ass factor into there calculations.  maybe ill give that research a look next

I've used this to help set some of my goals. My lower half is pretty dead on and my upper is about an inch off all measurements except my core is over. My bf is a little higher than 9% but then again my goals have always been to be in between 10%-15%. I'm actually cutting back down at the moment because I felt during my muscle gain training my bf was getting a little high so I want to cut down a tad and reboot. I'm not to worried about my measurements, I carry almost all my extra in my core so that should be more in line with numbers once I cut down.

I have been training coming up on 6 years and have made some great gainz. I've done a lot of trial and error on myself as well as learned from others and through research online. I've come along way in strength and size since I've started. I will continue to learn and make myself better each day. I've been friends with the Adonis guys for several years and we've talked a lot about the golden ratio. When I'm photo shoot ready I'm spot on with their golden ratio... but the thing is, a lot of it has to do with my genetics. I naturally have broad shoulders, because I was born with long clavicles and I have a narrow waist. I'm lucky to have that natural v-taper. Sure I've put in the work to build my cannonball delts, but when I look at my son who has narrow shoulders, there is no way I would have him set a goal to be within my ratio. He'd have to add on several inches of thickness to his delts and that's just not realistic.

So, although I like aiming for an aesthetic v-taper, I don't think we should be chasing an exact ratio. I've seen way to many guys beat up on themselves and get discouraged because they are struggling to hit the mark.

It's also only taking into account your front/rear view. I've got nice width, but my thickness needs to improve.

Symmetry, balance, and proportion is all key when it comes to building an aesthetic physique. I believe the golden ratio only accounts for a small portion of this.

Bottom line... my recommendation is to take this with a grain of salt... Build the best physique that you can build. Don't try to build a physique like someone else or based on their numbers. We all have unique skelletal and muscular structures. Embrace what you're working with.

Intresting stuff how have they come up with these measurements. I mean only by putting in my wrist measurement it spits out a complete list of numbers. I am pretty close to the greek one overall. A bit to chubby waistline still and a missing 1,5 cm across biceps but still pretty close.
