hi everyone

I have some pain in my left hand wrist joint, actually couple of weeks back i slept in a weird position and when i woke up i had some pain in my wrist joint, i thought my wrist will be ok after a day or something but i was wrong pain still resides in my wrist joint till now and i'm a bit concerned cause i feel that pain during barbell curl and also during some shoulder exercise like front raise so i took couple of days off from gym and i'm treating myself with some heat treatment i have at home but do guys think it can be that serious so that i should visit a physiotherapist?

Actually i am hesitating a bit to go to a physiotherapist cause getting an appointment is a bit expensive and i at the moment i cant afford that cause i have tight budget cause of my bills and college fee and stuff like that and also my time is distributed in my college, work and gym.

the pain is around the joint of "ulna" and "carpal bones" and it pains when i put some pressure on that area and also when i move my wrist at some angles, i dont know it its a sprain or what and what more treatment and precautions should i take?

I don't think you should see a Psychiatrist for a wrist problem.

I watch Dragon Ball Z before I work out.

Nipun,

I am going thru a left wrist issue right now. My pain is in the exact area as you and is aggravated by curls. Mine is more than likely due to the fact my left bicep is shorter than my right now especially the short head (inner bicep head) after my bicep tear injury. Because of this, it puts extra stress on the inner part of my wrist when I curl because my short head sits higher on the distal tendon and when it flexes it is pulling higher up on the elbow than it did before causing my wrist to overcompensate for the gap. I bought a wrist wrap brace that locks into my thumb and velcros around the wrist. It has worked wonders and my wrist is feeling much better. You probably strained the ligaments around your wrist and they just need additional support to protect them while you lift so they can heal :-)

John actually i also wear a wrist wrap which eases the pain during the workout but when i get home my wrist starts to pain again when the effect of workout wears off and the next morning my wrist is stiff and it hurts when i move my wrist at some angles (mainly left side) and i have absolutely no idea how the injury actually happened cause all i know is that i slept in a weird position where my wrist was beneath my chest in a folded position.

So i took couple of days off from gym and it seems ok for now but i know the pain will set in after the workout, althought i am treating my self home remedies what more do you suggest?

Nipun,

You have to keep doing what you are doing but you have to stop sleeping like you are doing. That is what is causing you to take one step forward and one step back. You may even try sleeping with the wrist wrap on. When it acts up, I ice it then I make sure to sleep on my back with my arms at my side.

John when i am at home or at work i usually wear the crepe bandage (and put some pain relief sprays or gel at that point and also heat treatment) at my wrist. i do couple of wrist exercise with 1kg dumbbell and i have started sleeping properly with my arms at my side and i only wear wrist wrap when i workout (avoiding barbell curls) but at the moment its been 4 days since i worked out, i am oooking forward to go to gym tomorrow but i am a tiny bit concerned that the pain will set in again (as it happened last week) and the days im taking off will go go in vain, normally it takes 3-4 weeks for a s normal sprain to ease off right?

Actually im a bit concerned because i already have pain in my right hand wrist cause i broke my right hand wrist couple of years ago before i started working out while playing football/soccer and my right wrist pains during some weather changes like winters and all that (but the pain is bearable and i am used to it now), so thats why im taking days off cause of the pain in my both wrist will make matters worse.

and how long have you been experiencing that pain in the wrist?

thanks for the advice :)

Nipun,

Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Take it slow when you head back. There will be some pain but as long as you keep it light and don't lift any weight that makes it hurt more, you will strengthen up and recover in no time :-)

I have been dealing with this for about a month now. It is much better and the wrist wrap has worked wonders. I am using heavier weights but I don't push it too much. I wouldn't worry about your right wrist as it will get stronger over time and hurt less. It may take 5 years or so but it eventually will happen as long as you don't re-injure it.

As for your left wrist, your right wrist may be partially to blame for your left wrist issues. Your body subconsciously compensates for current and past injuries. You could be subconsciously putting more strain on your left wrist because your body remembers the right wrist is/was damaged. It doesn't take much over-compensation to affect a joint and 99% of the time you don't even realize you are doing it. As I said in my last post, I know my left bicep tear has contributed to my left wrist issues.
