What's up Nation?!

It's been a while since I created a thread, and this time I want to ask you a simple question...When do you train?

At the moment, I personally train in the morning. It's been my routine for probably the better part of the past 18 months. When I started, I trained in the late afternoon/evenings, and I have also done the early morning workouts too.

As time has passed, I have really been lacking in energy when I get to the gym. Now, I'm not training terribly early - about 10:30am I to get to the gym most mornings. Some days, it's no problem. Some days I will head to the gym feeling tired and lacking energy, but once I warm up and start lifitng, I just forget about it and have some great workouts.

But it is becoming more and more regular that I yawn and yawn all morning, and when I get to the gym, I just don't have the same energy, and needless to say, my workouts suffer.

At night, I always seem to have motivation and energy, I think having more food could be part of the reason...it's definitely a thought I have had as to why I want to get back into training later in the day. I find myself thinking 'Yeah, when I get to the gym tomorrow, I will crush it!'. Then the next morning arrives, and it's the same routine - lack of energy blah blah blah :P

So my question for you is not only WHEN do you train, but WHY? What is it about the time of day you train that makes it so good in your opinion? #HTH

Around 15:30 because then school is done and dinner is after the workout. Thus, I get a postworkout meal right after my workout with a shake

I train at 5 AM at L A Fitness. Before I use the small gym at work and it opens at 5:30 AM. But my work starts at 6:30 AM so my training were very short. This got me stressed cause there were times when other people were using the the equipment that I needed. Finally got fed up and signed up at LA Fitness. Lots of equipment! I was like a kid in a big toy store. Been going there for 2 months now. Big difference in muscle workouts. Multiple equipment to train legs, back shoulders, etc, etc. Loving it. I should have done this years ago.

As far as workout times, early morning cause my body is used to it now and sometimes one at early evening at home. I have some free weights here.

Jordan,

I usually hit the gym at 5,6, or 7PM depending on how many customer meetings I have had for the day and when they end. I train for just 1 hour so I am in and out pretty quickly.

I've tried training at all times: 5 AM in the morning (right after I wake up), mid morning (10 AM), late afternoon (around 3:30 PM), early evening and roght before bed.

I'm kinda partial to the late afternoon period. It's because of a couple of reasons:

1. I live in a city that's right in the center of the country's largest desert. I prefer going to the gym while walking. The elevated outside temperatures (for like 10 months out of 12) cause a bit of a sweat but helps (in a way) to decrease the time needed for warming up. I know it's not scientific but I feel a lot of times it's more to do with how much energized you feel when heading into a workout.

2. No one's at the gym except a few trainers. I can hog the weights and turn up the intensity until I feel like throwing up!

3. That's the period when my head is throbbing after studying and I need an outlet for all that pent up frustration.

4. I usually have my lunch around 1:30 PM-2 PM. This helps in not worrying about any pre workout meal except an apple or a banana (helps a ton, not having to worry about an extra meal when you live off mess food).

Hey Jordan, I would have to say the best time to train is later in the day. The reason for this is because you should have a lot more food in you (2-3 meals). I know exactly what you are saying, in the morning it is tough, unless you eat a big breakfast an hour or two before your lift. Try training in the evening for a week and see if you can notice the difference. Maybe take a pre-workout? Let me know how it goes bro!!

Nice @William_Steinset.

I did the same thing as you when I was at school, although I probably wasn't as good in terms of having something to eat afterwards...I didn't even know what I was doing back then, training or eating! haha.

Man you must have great discipline to get up and hit it hard at 5am every morning @Artdel!

The earliest I have tried was 6am...I did that for about a month and a half before I got sick of it haha. Having people using equipment is definitely annoying...but I actually sometimes had that problem early in the morning in my small-town gym!

Nice John.

I have some flexibilty with my times for going to the gym, but even if I have something on late morning/mid afternoon, I seem to force myself to go to the gym earlier rather than leave it until later in the day.

I think leaving it until the evening, once most other things are done for the day, is a great idea. That way the pressure is off a bit more once you get home.

I have tried lots of different times to @energon19.

I think you make a good point about the gym being better after studying...at the moment I go to the gym and then study...whereas after hitting the gym I don't much feel like i! ... then again, that might just be because I don't want to study in general haha :P

Yeah @PumpSavages I used to have a fairly substantial breakfast loaded with over 100g carbs. Now I don't have anywhere near that much.

I think I will go back to training in the evenings, just to see how it feels like you say. I definitely like the idea of having more food in me before I lift!

I have used pre-workouts just a couple of times...definitely helped, but at the moment I am trying to avoid using them regularly because I can't afford it right now haha.

Thanks for your thoughts bro!

Studying after the gym?
You got courage man! haha :D

I just like to stretch, relax and watch an episode of Daredevil and Arrow. Kind of increases the feel of the pump... Just adrenaline though :P

I work 20-25 hours per week. Go to school full time. I workout whenever there is a time-slot available. If there isn't one, I make one!

Busy man Eric! haha. Yeah man some days I guess it would be about making time...even if it's a shorter workout than usual, getting one in is still important!

Lol. It just became my routine. I wake up at 3:50 AM Mon-Fri. Even if I don't work, I wake up automatically. Been doing this for probably 10 yrs now. If I miss this schedule, I would really feel bad. Someyimes I would train delts, shoulders, traps at night like 7-8 PM at home using free weights.
