Hey Scott and muscular strength members,

I have a question on progressive overload. This is in reference to the 3D chest video. I Have checked on your video and you mentioned about progressive overload per sets. Do I increase the weight per set regularly or as per a specific routine? For example: Go 60 lbs on set 1, 70 lbs on set 2 and 80 lbs on set 3, then start with 60 again on next chest day. Please help.

Regards

Naser

60 lbs set 1

70 lbs set 2

80 lbs set 3

This is called a pyramid set.

Progressive overload is when you do more work this workout compared to your last workout. So you will lift more total weight. If you did 200 reps last time do 210 reps next workout.. Or if you did 225 lbs in bench press last time do 230 lbs the next workout.

As was said ear;ier, progressive overload is basically making the muscle work harder each successve workout.

This can be done by:

1. Adding weight to the bar/using heavier dumbbells

2. Adding more sets to your exercises

3. Adding more reps to your individual sets

4. Reducing your rest time in between sets

or a combination of these

Jeff (jcgadfly) nailed it - progressive overload can be achieved multiple ways and he has listed the main ways to do this effectively.
