    Why can't I gain fat?

    May 15, 2018, 9:34 pm

So I had recently finished an 8 week program and well being 8% body fat and trying to gain muscle can really take a toll on your nervous system. I decided that last week I would try to eat a bunch of calories and avoid training because I wanted to put on some fat because I don't have a lot of stored energy if ever need be. The week ended, I had eaten a bunch of sweets, pasta, potatoes, and meat, and well... no success, I gained zero fat and managed to lose 1 pound of water weight because we were continuously running out of water at home. Please I need some advice because I am completely aware that at my age my metabolism is through the roof, but even my older brother is saying that I have too little fat, he says it is scary how much my veins stick out.

Your body natural fills its energy stores with certain foods you eat like creatine with meat and good Carbs. You don't need to gain fat. If you had extra fat sometimes you can get your body to use fat as energy. You don't need fat if your goal is to be super lean you just need to build muscle. If you are naturally skinny and have a super fast metabolism then you need to eat. What are your calories? Are you eating in a 500 calorie surplus like in Scotts video to gain? If that's not enough you may have to eat more.

I agree with Aaron. If you still lose 1lb after eating 'a bunch', it just means it wasn't enough to put you in a surplus. Are you tracking calories? Being a teen that is also training, it wouldn't be a surprise if you needed up to, or maybe more than, 4000 calories daily.

However, don't purposely try to pack on fat. Just continue to aim for lean gains so that you only gain fat slowly. Even if you got to 12% bodyfat, you would still be lean, but you don't want to do that in a month. If you're not worried about your veins being visible (which isn't a bad thing), don't let it bother you.

Thanks for the advice. I did eventually gain a bit a fat, Idk how much, but probably enough to put me on a safer level. Today was the first day after 2 weeks when I finally got to the gym, Idk how I have been so busy. I used the same average weight as I did 2 weeks ago, I lowered the volume a bit but increased intensity to almost maximum, the first 45 minutes I was sweating so hard I almost soaked my shirt, I had little to no rest periods between sets and did everything explosively, the pump was so good I think my muscles almost doubled in size during the pump. So yeah was a great day at the gym, had many people looking at me with that "what in the world" face as I increased the weight and continued to put maximum effort in.

Also, while not training I managed to strain or something my right forearm, grip strength is fine, just can't seem to hold my hand stable with a bent elbow, sometimes while drinking coffee I find my hand vibrating, could be from my woodworking hobby that involves chopping and sawing. Any ideas on how to fix the minor issue? Or do you think it will just go away over time?

Plus since I was busy, I had no time to check the website. Strange enough I didn't actually get an email notification for your reply, I should have it on so what's up with that?

Got to love those kinds of workouts man! You will probably be sore for a couple of days now after taking a couple of weeks off from the gym haha.

So it's in your forearm? Not your elbow? Just a muscle strain? If that's what it is, I'd say some foam rolling, stretching, and just general resting of your forearm might help.

That's weird you didn't get a notification.. are you sure it didn't end up in your spam folder?

Yep, it's one day later and I'm super sore.

And it did end up in my spam, why would it do that? I got this notification and it came through fine.

I'm not sure. It's probably just to do with your email system. Some people have them turn up in spam, some don't. Just double check your settings and hopefully you can make it so none of these come through as spam anymore!
