    Why can't I gain fat?

    May 15, 2018, 9:34 pm

So I had recently finished an 8 week program and well being 8% body fat and trying to gain muscle can really take a toll on your nervous system. I decided that last week I would try to eat a bunch of calories and avoid training because I wanted to put on some fat because I don't have a lot of stored energy if ever need be. The week ended, I had eaten a bunch of sweets, pasta, potatoes, and meat, and well... no success, I gained zero fat and managed to lose 1 pound of water weight because we were continuously running out of water at home. Please I need some advice because I am completely aware that at my age my metabolism is through the roof, but even my older brother is saying that I have too little fat, he says it is scary how much my veins stick out.

Your body natural fills its energy stores with certain foods you eat like creatine with meat and good Carbs. You don't need to gain fat. If you had extra fat sometimes you can get your body to use fat as energy. You don't need fat if your goal is to be super lean you just need to build muscle. If you are naturally skinny and have a super fast metabolism then you need to eat. What are your calories? Are you eating in a 500 calorie surplus like in Scotts video to gain? If that's not enough you may have to eat more.

I agree with Aaron. If you still lose 1lb after eating 'a bunch', it just means it wasn't enough to put you in a surplus. Are you tracking calories? Being a teen that is also training, it wouldn't be a surprise if you needed up to, or maybe more than, 4000 calories daily.

However, don't purposely try to pack on fat. Just continue to aim for lean gains so that you only gain fat slowly. Even if you got to 12% bodyfat, you would still be lean, but you don't want to do that in a month. If you're not worried about your veins being visible (which isn't a bad thing), don't let it bother you.
