Hey guys!
I just recently decided to start lifting to gain muscle and muscle strength. I am 20 years old at 6'1" and 135 pounds of lean body. Since I have a crazy high metabolism I have always been able to eat whatever I feel like without gaining fat. Well since I am wanting to take this seriously I wanted some help with my meal plan. What are the macros that yall would suggest? I know this probably isn't a lot of information...I always got a tub of protein to help with my protein intake.

William,

Welcome to the world of pumpig iron :-) I can't really help you in detail yet until you calculate your resting metabolic rate (RMR) and required calories. The MEAL PLAN tab on the home page will help you calculate this as well as give you a starting point for your macros.

One piece of advice I can give you as I first started lifting when I was your age is to learn how to eat quality food now. The nutrition habits you develop now will carry over into your life as you get older. I am in the shape and condition I am in now because I trained my body and mind to use and desire nutritious foods versus junk and processed food when I was younger. This is a difficult challenge at your age because it is easy to eat junk food, it tastes good, and when you are young with a fast metabolism it leads to very little weight and health problems. Keep eating like this, however, and as you age it is not only not healthy but also MUCH harder to break the habit :-)

Hey @tadlockwj!

As John pointed out, you need to figure out your BMR and current macros too if you can, so that we can help you out more.

But from what you have posted so far, it seems you are going to need a lot of calories, and while you will want to eat low carbs, with a high metabolism you will still want them somewhat high, possibly even around the 200g mark.

I am 20 too, and we both probably have a year or so left to really get some impressive growth, and one thing I know is I need to EAT! haha.

But if you go to the @mealplan page, you will find more info there!

Hope this helps!

OK. Did you watch the video on the @mealplan page as well? You add those numbers together, then divide by 2 to get your average caloric intake for a day (roughly).

So 1700 = 2700 = 4400/2 = 2200 calories.

To gain weight, eat about 250-500 calories ABOVE this number. To lose weight, about 250-500 BELOW. However, this varies from person to person. With a fast metabolism you may need to eat in an even greater surplus. But start between 250-500 and see what sort of results you get in 2-4 weeks, then adjust your calorie intake accordingly.

Do you know what your current macros are??
