last 18 months have been...interesting. Had 3 anaphylactic incidents in 12 months without pattern; multitude of tests results are non allergy related, they thought it was an immune disorder but a bone marrow biopsy ruled that out. They are not sure of the cause. Depression and minor health issues and family issues.  Gained weight, loss lean muscle. Finally got in the right mindset to get back into the lifestyle..and I find out i have a minor hernia; cause unknown but not from lifting heavy weight (occurred during a week when I did not lift anything worth mentioning).

Informed by HCP that because 14 years ago I had a major hernia on the right side; I was susceptible to get one on the left. Funny that it didn't occur when lifting (properly) for 3 years. Now awaiting surgery. 6 weeks after surgery can start lifting again, but will start low as I remember the physio I had after the last operating (that injury occurred at work so was paid to work out for 1.5 months after recovery).

Any recommendations on what plan to go with after recovery? PPL or 12 week home program. Currently sitting at 5'8" 267 lbs. and I lost a lot of lean muscle.

Until then I am advised I can still do cardio but to be careful so going to start with that to loose what I can up to the operation on OCT 3.  Thank you for your time Scott, as you helped me loose a lot of fat, gain a lot of muscle, answered questions and I feel like I am almost back to square one.

Almost, but I have the drive and the knowledge that I did not back when I started this 3+ years ago.

Hey Dave.

Sorry to hear about all your troubles man, it really has been a hectic past 18 months for you. Glad you are doing your best to stay positive throughout though!!

I would say you can start with the PPL once you are allowed back in the gym. Just take it easy. With MONTH 1, you will only be working out 3 times a week, so that's a great way to ease back into it. And you can reduce the volume a little bit if you need to.

But, if you'd rather start getting back into it from home, the home program is fine. But maybe only do that for the first month of recovery, then go straight to PPL, because I'm guessing you're used to gym workouts? And PPL would be your best bet in terms of gaining back muscle and strength as quick as possible.

And if you can, start now by getting your diet back on track.

Thank you for the advise Scott. I have created this forum post of our conversation incase it is helpful for anyone else.

I have started with getting the eating back on track and doing the light cardio as the doctor instructed.

Once I can get back to the gym, going to start off less intense to get the body reconditioned to it again. I did follow your PPL for 7-9 months before all this happened and wasn't sure if it was best to start with that.

I have a lot of bodyfat to loose which is my main goal before the putting on lean muscle to get back where I was, and surpass it.

On the plus side, will be in that golden zone as it will be over 3 months since I have truly worked out, by the time I am able to again.

Once I start up: new macros, weigh ins, pictures and weekly updates.  My mind is in the place to do it, now for the body..

@fenrispack That's a good idea posting it here for others to learn from too man!

So if you have quite a bit of fat to lose, just start with the home program workouts (once you are ready to start working out again and doing more than light cardio). You can still do them in the gym, and they will get your body used to endurance intensity again, while losing fat (as long as the @mealplan is on point as well of course).

PPL will still be there when you are a bit leaner and are ready to focus on more intense weight training and building muscle!

Glad you have a plan for when you start up though - that will help you stay on track! The body will go where the mind tells it 😁 ðŸ’ª
