    Am I training properly

    August 31, 2019, 1:06 pm

Hi, I am a 23 year old guy, I weigh around 76kg and I train 4-5 days a week. I do a push-pull-legs program. I want to get bigger but also every Saturday I do a strength based routine. My main goals are to get a big bench press and get more muscular overall. So most days I will do a pyramid type workout going from 12 to 10,8,6 reps increasing the weight but on Saturdays I will do 3x5 on the bench but it is so frustrating cause this tactic helped me get my bench to 100kg but I cannot seem to get past it. I do pause reps, I do overhead press, heavy skull crushers and dips. I don't know what else to do to get my bench up. My diet is on point, I sleep 8 hrs every night, I hydrate properly. I have been stuck for months.

You may simply be doing to much. That is a lot of work and movements that is going to effect your pressing ability big time. Sometimes doing less gives you more. I would consider trying it at least. So instead of heavy skull crushers and dips do something lighter for your triceps.

No problem. Yeah one very important thing to keep in mind is that as a natural lifter there is definently a thing called overtraining. I love training so for me its hard to do less, but I find that I get more results that way. Especially when it comes to my strenght. This is because as a natural lifter we do not recover as fast and if you are destroying your chest, triceps and shoulders you will have a hard time gaining strenght in exercises like the bench press. A good quote that I like for situations like this is "stimulate not annihilate".
