Hi folks!

Has anyone looked into the effects of static stretching while being sore? I remember Scott talked about being so sore you can't even sleep due to the pain and I wanted to know if someone else has linked that to stretching.

Monday I was nearly killing myself on leg day, the first training after 2-3 weeks off. So I was expecting some DOMS and surely enough on Tuesday my muscels were aching - in a good way.

At night, while reading I was stretching my inner thighs, which felt good. Two hours later I awoke tossing and turning from the pain and this morning, I'm walking like an 80 year old.

What are your experiences with static stretching while already being sore? Will it at least lead to more muscle building?

Static stretching while being sore is good for the muscles along with foam rolling, just don't over due it. You want to get those muscles stretched back out and elongated. Also increases the blood flow to aid in recovery. Your muscles are sore from lactic acid build up as well as micro fiber tears. Stretching will not increase this unless you over stretch your muscle.

I have been training coming up on 6 years and have made some great gainz. I've done a lot of trial and error on myself as well as learned from others and through research online. I've come along way in strength and size since I've started. I will continue to learn and make myself better each day. MS Athlete/Super Hermanite BEING CHALLENGED IN LIFE IS INEVITABLE, BEING DEFEATED IS OPTIONAL.

Great response from Aaron! If you can, I'd suggest doing your stretching immediately after your workout, that's going to be the best time to elongate them again, and that's when all the blood and nutrients are really going to be getting in there too. Stretching while being sore won't on it's own lead to more muscle breakdown for re-growth, but it will help to prevent soreness and injuries in the future.
