Helllo Scott, I have pain on my shoulders every time I do movements on my arms or lifting weights. I do warming ups before excercises. Do you recommend some excercises to strength my muscles on the shoulders? Or am I doing the excercises wrong?

Greetings,

Rafael

Where exactly do you feel the pain? Does it feel like MUSCLE or JOINT pain?

It doesn't feal like muscle pain the one you feel after a good excercise. It·s on the front of the shoulders. Both shoulders, same place.

What warm-ups do you do? How long have you had the pain and how did it start in the first place? Are there any particular exercises it hurts the most? Does it hurt to the touch? It would be hard to say whether or not you are doing exercises wrong without seeing every exercise that causes pain.. but if it is joint pain, you might need to take a bit of time off and solely focus on recovery.. maybe even see a sports therapist.

Warming ups:

tension rope 15 times

Lay on the floor, 15 - 20 times with light weight sholder movements (the one you recommend)

Before starting Bench press, push ups with the bar only 20 times. Then increasing slowly the weigts, 5 times every time till the start.

Lat pull down, if I start on this then 20 times 10 kg to warming up and then same 5 times slowly upg weights till start.

Arnold press, start with low weights 20 times to warming up before start.

Dumbells feels worse after than Bench press.

Push ups causes pain after.

Hanging on my arms as well.

Cables excercises, the ones you move the arms up or down, right and left.

After the abs rope pull down.

I feel the pain when I press on my shoulder or moving my arms up or back wards.

When did it start, I think when I first hang on my shoulders or doing push ups. When I have rest days ( on holidays) pain is neerly gone. But if I do push ups, it starts again.

Could be a pulled tendon or a strained muscle.. might even be some nerve damage. You might need to work on some mobility outside of the gym as well as your warm-ups. This means dynamic and static stretching your your shoulder and back, because the problem could be in a different place but making the pain occur at your shoulder.

I'd also recommend you see a sports/massage therapist if this has been going on for a while. They might be able to dig around and pin-point an issue.

Hey Scott, I have been to the sports fysio and he think that the prioblem is the weak small muscles on both shoulders. I have to do arms/shoulders exceecises for 1 week,3 x a day. Avoid excercises that causes pain for now.

Greetings,

Rafael

Did he say which deltoid head in particular? Posterior? Lateral? Anterior? Or all three? I guess if he gave you exercises to do that's OK, hopefully it gets you on the road to recovery 😊

Use some of these if you need too.

Hey Bro, thanks for your concern, and thanks for the clip. I think it is only posterior, but I will ask him again.

Rotator Cuff. The smallers muscle that keeps the shoulder in the shoulder Cup.

Greetings,

Rafael

Yeah rotator cuff is often an issue. That's what the exercises in the video above will help with.

Unforunately I can't read what the email says lol, but hopefully both your doctor's and my advice can help you complete a full recovery 😊

Hey Bro, ha, ha Dutch is a dificult language, thanks again. Thougjt you were German because of your family name.I·ve notice that doing dumbells chest press, with arms close to my body when lifting up, doesn·t feel pain. Do you have other varieties, because Barbell bench press does feel pain when arms are wide. The fysio says that is because of the pressure on my shoulders and I have to avoid that for a time.

Regards,

Rafael

Just stick to the dumbbells for now if you can use them without pain. Besides, dumbbells are better for maximizing muscle growth 💪 ðŸ˜

Hey Bro, thanks for your advice. Yesterday I did chest with dumbells and was ok. And I started taking warming ups from your clip and fysio. I think it helps all😊 . I avoid the cable fly, think this will give to much tension on the shoulders.

Greetings,

Rafael

Awesome! Warming up is super important! No problem about the cable flys.. like I say for now it's best to stick to exercises that aren't causing pain until you get back to 100% 😊
