Yesterday was shoulders, arms, and abs day at the gym. One of the personal trainers wanted to video me as I did a chin up in the chair. I weigh 187.4lbs and the chair weighs 34.4lbs. Full disclosure, I don't usually pause at the top. I usually just pull rep after rep til I'm forced to rest. I'm strapped into the chair by a Grizzly Fitness dip belt (a piece of leather with a chain on the end.) How's my form? any tweaks I should make? wheelchair chin up

Hey KnoxWheels,

As far as form is concerned, it looks fine especially given the circumstances. My sole critique would be to get your chin a little bit higher and possibly squeeze the back muscles more. That said I like how you paused and kept the tempo controlled. In your case, perhaps doing isometrics at the top would be beneficial. Keep up the good work!

@KnoxWheels82 That is super impressive man!!! Making that paused chin-up look easy!

I would agree with Alex's recommendation - if you want to make it a bit harder, try getting your chin all the way over the bar. If you can do that, you'll open yourself up to even more back gains! 💪

I did chin ups again tonight and I kept my shoulders back, chest up, and chin tilted up (so much so I was looking at the ceiling. I assume that's what you meant by "getting your chin all the way over the bar") throughout the movement and actually was able to bring myself further up the bar. 5 paused reps, rest, 5 paused reps, rest, 5 paused reps, done. I think that when I do chin ups from now on, I'll do pause reps (holding it as long as I can) only.

@KnoxWheels82 It's not so much about tilting your head back to look up at the ceiling, it's more pulling your chest closer to the bar, so that your chin goes over it. So it sounds like you were able to do that anyway (because you say you were able to bring yourself further up the bar).

Good work with the paused reps! You'll be getting stronger and stronger by focusing on those!
