Hey guys, as you can see from my title that I am unable to squat and this is seriously bothering me cause it is the top excerise for legs if anything and I am unable to perform the movement without falling forwards or backwards. My body/Back does not allow me to squat at all without leaning so far forward that my back will snap if that helps visualize it. Everytime I try to go down I fall backwards as well. I tried putting weights on the floor and putting heels on them but that didn't work and I try strechting but I am not improving there either. If I were to stand up straight and try to bend over and touch my toes I cant even get close to my foot and even when I sit on the ground and strecth for my toes I cant even come close either. I am able to squat on the smith machine though. Not a whole lot of weight but able too but thats kinda lame and pussy like to me. Sorry for the lanuage. Someone help

It'd be easier if we could see a video. Biggest thing is form but I need to see. I find it helpful to Squat barefoot or just wear a flat sole shoe. It makes it so much easier to push through your heels. Also you may be using too much weight and I know it sucks but you may have to drop the weight a tad. If you are having trouble falling forward or backwards then you are leaning and not squating straight down and pushing straight up through your heels and too much weight may add to the issue affecting form.

I have been training coming up on 6 years and have made some great gainz. I've done a lot of trial and error on myself as well as learned from others and through research online. I've come along way in strength and size since I've started. I will continue to learn and make myself better each day. I'm fairly new to squatting, but it looks like your feet are far too forward from the rest of your body. I'm sure these guys will chime in, but maybe start with just the bar to get the form down? thats what i did

I get what your saying bro but my main issue is not being able to squat at all freely even without weight and just trying a body squat. Unable to accomplish that. My body for some reason does not let me go down and when i try to really force it I just lean forward with horrible form or I fall backwards.

The Fallon. Backwards is probably because your body is used to being supported so far back with the smith machine. You should do a video if you can of squatting just the bar even if your form is terrible. The guys will be able to dissect it much better

Theres a link of me just trying to body squat.

Ok, first thing I see is your hips are pushed too far forward before you even squat. Everything needs to be neutral straight down. Second, you need to roll your hips back before you start the descent. Kick your ass out like those girls who post photos on IG and then go down. What might help is out a bench behind you, and work on sitting on the end of the bench with the barbell on your back. This will get you used to "sitting" back into the squat

Heres a video of me squatting with the smith machine. This is the only way I am able to squat for now.

Hey man let's take a step back for a minute because your form is way off. Fist off I think the Smith Machines Squats are horrible and some say the Smith has its place but on Squats it ruins your form. I also noticed how much you are rounding your lower back. In a sence you are targeting your Hams more but not getting the full benefit of Squats. Also your back will not like you down the road. Also on your body Squats once you hit about the halfway point your back goes into rounding mode. I know you can do this it's just a matter of practice. Re try you body squats okay. Stand with your feet just slighlty past shoulder width apart and toes slightly pointed out. Make your hands flat and put your fingers behind your ears with your elbows sticking straight out, stick out your chest and lock those shoulder blades. Now sit. This is not a hip hinging movement, if you stick you ass out too far you will lean forward causing your back to round, your butt will come out but really concentrate on keeping your chest out and shoulder blades locked and bring your butt to the ground at least until your hips and knees are parallel. Then finally push up through your heels. Try it then with just the barbell keeping the same form.

Heres a video today of me trying a different method of trying to squat which still failed. My problem is not being able to actually go down without rounding my back or falling backwards cause something is not mobile enough. Not sure if it is my ankles or calves. I really have no idea. It sucks cause i want to squat

What's up man?!

You need to keep your core tight. If you've seen some of Scott's squat videos, you will hear him talking about the importance of keeping your core tight, because if you don't you will act like an accordion and just fall forward, and to me, that's what it looks like is happeneing to you. Try tightening that core and sticking your chest up as much as you can. Focus on sittin back, and keep your upper back tight (shoulder blades retracted).

Also, are you doing some stretching to improve your felxibilty? Have you seen this video?

No sir I was not. I kinda just decided to stay away from squats and go a lot heavier on the leg press.

Don't give up on it! Keep practicing and you will eventually iron it out. Took me a while to fix my form on Deadlifts. You are right, there are other ways to kill your legs like Leg Presses, Hack Squats and Lunges. Also maybe try DB Squats where you don't have the weight on your shoulders and see if those work better for you.

Goblet squats are also good to help with the squat form. The dumbbell/kettlebell is also out in front of you so it's still easy to bail on the squat if you need to.
