Are mass gainers good to use in this situation?

Specifically the ones with about 3000 calories.

As a pre-med student I find it really tough to balance working out and studies at the same time because there are weeks during a semester where I have a ton of homework and papers to write, as well as research and I find myself going through sleepless nights. As a result I find myself tight with time when it comes to cooking and also I am unable to go to the gym which means the gains I made a few weeks are gone and I'm back to where I was before. Is this really how my life is going to be until I'm done with school or is there someway to go to the gym?

I'm trying to bulk up, I'm 6 feet, 158lbs with about 11% body fat. My goal is to be about 180-190lbs and I've calculated that in order to get there I need around 3100 calories per workout day.

yes use a mass gainer to fill in the gaps within your calories. However try your hardest to get a good amount of sleep. at least 7 to 9 hours

What are some good Mass Gainers that don't have bad ingredients in them?

Plus, getting 7-9 hours would be a luxury for me, the most I get is about 5-6, sometimes even 4, and those are on days when I'm not as busy.

Dennis,

First off, huge props to you being a pre-med student and trying to train.  My first 2 years of college were a Bio/Pre-Med major and it was killer......until I switched to Psychology and Economics :-)

Anyways, Rishi is spot on.  As for supplements, stay with well known companies like BSN, Optimum Nutrition, or GNC.  They don't use "suspect" chemicals like some of these "designer" companies you have probably read about on the Internet.  As for sleep, try to sneak in a 20-30 minute nap when you can.  It helps a lot especially when you are getting 5 hours or less of sleep.  The other thing you can do since you kinda of know when your study load increases dramatically is either don't train those weeks but train extra hard on the weeks you can so your body needs the rest or train real quick and light on those days - get in and out of the gym in 30 minutes.

It is hard to do and your progress will be slow but stick with it.  If you get a good system of training and eating down, you can use it for medical school and as you are going thru your residency because you won't have much time for food or sleep then as you probably already know.

Have you ever checked out TRUE-MASS by BSN?  I get most of my calories from food, but my friend Mike loves it.

I have free shipping on my store if you are interested in it :)

I have been doing research about it, and this seems to be up and down with the results, but there have been reports of Mass Gainers causing kidney stones in the long run if you rely on it too much.

Is this true Scott?

In my opinion these studies are done and don't say what other junk these people are eating.  At the end of the day you use a MASS GAINER to fill in your macros.  So as long as you are not going over what you need to reach your goal, you should have no problems.

You should really try my meal planner out my friend.  It will help you track everything to ensure you are eating enough and you can enter in custom food like BSN TRUE MASS and my system will add up all the calories and macros for you.
