    New to supps

    September 15, 2015, 1:02 am

Got a noob question, forgive me. I take my protein and creatine, my fiber(have digestive issues), BCAA(pills) etc. The one thing that I always wonder about, multi vitamins. I have been taking a mens one a day vitamin. I choose the one a day because it seems to me that anything that is 1000+% of the DV of any ingrediant is not needed. The one a day vitamins seem to reel that in pretty good. Am I wasteing cash on a multi? Do I need it? I follow the macros and eat fairly balanced and clean. Would I get enough from food alone? I do take my fish oils due to being allergic to most fish on the market, so I believe I need to supp that in. Am I good with what I have here? Thanks

Sorry for unfound typo's, typing this in between 911 calls at work.

    What I take

    ISO-100 protein

Dymatize BCAA pill form (was free when I ordered)

Mega Mens (GNC) One a day

    Good Ole Fiber

Omega 3's (very specific due to allergies)

ON Amino Energy as a pre-workout only when I really need it

ON Creatine (hydro or isolate something) dont have it in front of me to verify

Hi ! I personally use a multi vitamin everyday regardless of my overall intake for the day. Main reason for this is the habit of actually taking it so that on the days where I lack a ton of vitamins and minerals my supplements can help me out a great deal. I also use fish oils like you do, I think it is very important to keep it in the diet, i usually do not take it on days where I eat a good amount of fish though. Thus, I would personally suggest you to keep using them.

I also take a Vitamin D pill because I don't get much sunlight. Especially in the winter!

Thanks for the reply. Would it be right to say that the multivitamins that contain overly high amounts of specific vitamins are overkill? Do I need to be taking 1300%DV of B2? (useing that as an expample)

    Shannon,

A good multi-vitiamin is still a good idea as a "catch all" just in case you are not getting everything from your diet. I eat a very balanced and nutritious diet but I still use vitamin supplements. Most vitamins are water soluble like all the B vitamins and C. If you take more than you need, your body will just piss them out. The fat soluble vitamins like A, D, E need to be watched because if you take too much they get stored in your body fat and could cause problems. It is also important you eat enough healthy fats so your body can absorb and use the fat soluble vitamins or you will be just wasting them. It is the same for minerals like iron and potassium - too much will cause problems. You would need to take mega-doses, however, much more than are in a single multi-vitamin so no need to worry.
