Hey everyone!

I would like to take up yoga in my spare time. Anyone know how I can begin? I dont want to go to a class, I'd rather learn from a video or an internet source. Can anyone suggest a really good yoga video for beginners that maybe demonstrates and explains the poses in detail? I m not interested in some "clueless" chick showing off some poses, I'd prefer demonstration from an expert that knows what they re talking about.

Take a look at Veria (http://www.veria.com) They have a cable TV channel and some additional resources on their web site. There are also printed magazines with corresponding web sites: http://www.yogajournal.com/, http://www.yogamagazine.com, http://www.flowyogamagazine.com/, https://yogainternational.com/. An actual class is helpful because the teacher will adjust your pose for correct form. I'm not sure which yoga shows are currently on Veria... you'll have to use your judgement on whether it is fluff or good stuff.

Hi man,

I can't help you directly with yoga sources but I can give you an advice, confirmed on base of experiences from past.

Because you are seeking on long term I suggest you to "risk" some money for few individual hours or to take yoga course (at least here in Slovenia we have few of them). That way you will really learn basics much better, like Deborah already said, instructor can check your proper form and guide you. If you do this home alone, you can't be concentrated on everything and you can easily miss some important things, especially when you start with something
completly new; you just can't be concentrated on breathing, relaxing, proper form etc., until you reach some level of experience. My ex is pilates instructor and I know how it goes if you learn from videos by yourself or instructor teach and check you. Some things looks quite simple but they are quite complicated in fact.

Second reason why you should invest a little more at start is that you will get much better insight in it, you'll know better to decide what is good and reliable source and what not, you'll better know what and where to look/search further for more knowladge and exercises. Starting expense is neglectable in lifetime usability ;)

Kalimera, Kosta!

You could check out Kino Yoga, she has some DVDs and a Youtube channel where she explains a lot.

And I'm sure there are many different websites and channels with free classes, but here's one of them: www.doyogawithme.com

Have fun!

Thanx everybody for taking the time to help out @hur1coco @GT_turbo @scrnme007. I will definitely check the sites you suggested, but it seems like I m gonna have to take some actual face to face classes with an instructor. I understand how complicated even the simplest pose can be. And there is no way I can judge and correct my poses without an instructor.
