Hello everyone,

So I am a beginner at weight training and have started my at home workouts. I was doing dumbbell weighted squats with two 30lb Dumbbells. I did not feel anything wrong when I was doing the squats but the next day I am having a lot of pain next to my groin where the muscles connect to my pelvis .

Looking at a leg muscle diagram I think it's either the m. pectineus or the top of the m. adductor longus. I am no expert but that seems to he where the pain is and in only my right leg.

It hurts to try and twist the leg outwards and hurts some when going up steps.

What might I be doing wrong and how long should I wait before I try squats again?

Thanks to everyone in advance!

@DanEffler It might just be Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), and that happens to be the area you feel it the most, one of the muscles that probably REALLY isn't used to be activated.

Do you still have the pain now? Is it sore to the touch? If not, it probably is just DOMS and it will fade soon (if it hasn't already), and your body will probably adapt over time and you won't get as sore.

If it keeps happening.. it could be something like you're keeping your legs too wide / too far apart.

It has pretty much subsided now completely. That is the side I had the stroke on so maybe I'm doing something odd with that side.

Thanks for replying. I'm doing legs again in the morning. So wish me luck!

@DanEffler Sounds like it was probably DOMS then, which is a good thing! Hopefully it's nothing related to your stroke. Might just be a slight imbalance toward that right side.

Let us know how the next leg workout goes man!

No matter what hurts when you squat, the pain can often be attributed to weak glutes.Stretching your hips and glutes will help you feel more mobile and less achy when you squat. Weak glutes often cause a lifter to lean too far forward during the squat, making her lower back and hip flexors compensate.
