1) How is this form different from dumbbells squat? Are these exercises become similar when using dumbbells?
2) It seems in the video that the knee passes the toes. I usually hear that this is bad, however it seems that some trainers have no problem with. Actually I am very confused about this issue because I have tough time keeping balance without allowing the knee to pass the toe a little bit.
Thanks in advance.

Hi!
1) During dumbbell squat, you push through your legs and put more emphasis on your glutes and quads. During dumbbell deadlift, you have to put weights down until it's dead. Then you press through your hips and flex your core. It puts more emphasis on lower back, hamstrings, and glutes. Remember that your hands should be like hooks. Don't use them to lift weights. Your legs, back, and core do the work.
Remember that deadlift is also a leg exercise.
2) There is a lot of bro-science saying that if your knee passes the toes you are going to hurt your tendons. Watch This Video where Scott explains how to do Barbell Deadlift and what are the mistakes. You can apply this technique to dumbbell deadlift as well. It might answer your future questions.
If you have a tough time keeping balance, you might need to lower weights down or perform the exercise very slowly. This exercise involves many muscle groups and some of your muscles might not stand the challenge of lifting heavy. Try to learn how to do a proper form with lower weights as you might hurt yourself otherwise.

1) A dumbbell squat is typically just a Goblet Squat - done with one dumbbell. If you start using two dumbbells by your sides, then you're basically doing a dumbbell deadlift. So they are different, but each movement will be working your legs. I'll post my video of how to do Goblet Squats below.
2) Knees going past the toes definitely isn't a bad thing. Look at Olympic lifters for example - if you check their form when they are in the bottom position of a clean and jerk or a snatch or anything like that, their knees go WAY past their toes because they have awesome ankle mobility. THe reason some people don't push the knees past the toes is because they don't have that flexibility. Also, the pressure isn't going into your kneecaps when your knees track over your toes - it's going through your quads.
Make sure you are keeping your core nice and tight when you do this movement (or any movement for that matter). That will help your balance!
Hope that helps!
