Hey hey @Joe185!

A bar and plates is obviously a good start. For a home gym, IMO, you can't go past a pull-up bar unless you have other places to do pull-ups.

If you have the basics...like a bench or two, a barbell and dumbbells (even if they're only light weight), a pull-up bar and a squat rack, that gives you a pretty solid base to do a whole bunch of exercises. That being said, there are still tons you can do without them.

Cost might hinder your ability to get something like a squat rack...if you can't get one, there are other methods of training your legs other than squats.

How big an area do you have to set up your home gym?

I have ruffly a 30x30 foot room in my basement

just put up a pull-up bar getting a bench from my father this weekend

I don't have a suat rack. I looked at getting one but I'm thinking I'd rather put the lil spending money I have to getting more than 28lbs worth of plates. I might attempt to build one. Or stick with the alturnitive of squatting what I can clean and press.

thank you

Joe

Sounds like you have a pretty good set-up in mind.

No squat rack is no big deal, like you say, there are alternatives and you might be better with more weights.

Hope your home gym comes out great! #HTH

A squat rack and some TRX bands would make a great combination! What is your budget, and what are your specific goals?
