How much cardio should I be doing ?

    October 26, 2018, 1:13 pm

So we have a treadmill, but I am heavier that the limit , so I don't want to do running on it, also winter is coming and I can't do cardio outside. So my question is how much cardio should I do? Are 2 hours of cardio everyday too much? My goal is to loose a lot of fat as quickly as possible, so would 2 hours of cardio daily be too much cardio, and also would it mess with my gains?

    Hey Audxius,

If your objective is to lose fat as quickly as possible, entering a greater caloric deficit would be advised. The standard range is 10%, but 20% is more aggressive and might be suitable for your goals. In response to your question, cardio can certainly help in the fat loss process, but ultimately doing 2 hours a day will only increase your TDEE (since you're burning hundreds of extra calories) and make it easier for you to enter a deficit. At the end of the day, it's the calorie deficit not the cardio (even though it's helpful). That said, I think it's a great idea for you to do daily cardio for the amazing health benefits, in addition to feeling much better during this process. I would advise 20-90 minutes a day if you want to go that route. Enjoy the gains brother!

@audxius Alex is right, make sure you're in a deficit first.

Can you do 2 hours of cardio a day? Absolutely, if you enjoy it. But do you need to? No. It's all about diet, but even with cardio, for weight loss, I'd recommend a mix of HIIT and LISS. HIIT sessions only need to be about 20 - 30 minutes, and LISS sessions probably only need to be 45 - 60 minutes.

Again though, if you enjoy long amounts of cardio, you can do 2 hours a day, which might enable you to eat a bit more while still being in a deficit.

Have you been to the @mealplan page to do some calculations for macros and calories?
