So I have been cutting for a few weeks now and have been tracking my fat percentage with a caliper. I think im around 17% now, but I always have a problem measuring my thigh. Somehow it always hurts to grab even the slightest of skin and its very "thick". While my chest and abdomen have become loose fat (something which I understand happens when your getting a lower fat percentage) the thigh have not. This always makes me wonder if I have the correct measurements. Is this normal?

Hey David,

Might have to do with your fat distribution. It's possible that your legs are naturally leaner hence less pinch of fat. This is just a guess, but definitely probable. I wouldn't worry about this too much, keep tracking as you're doing now and your whole body will lean out irrespective of distribution. Keep up the good work!

I agree with Alex. Everyone has different fat distributions. Some will carry more fat on their legs while having a lean upper body and vice-versa. Although if you're saying it's thick, then that could mean that you actually still have more fat around your legs. If the amount of skin you were grabbing was thinner, that would mean there is less fat there.

Keep in mind also that measuring yourself might make it less accurate too though. There's nothing wrong with it, but if you can get someone else to do it, it might be easier and you might notice slight differences in your measurements.

Thanks Alex and Scott! That does make sense. Saw pics of another dude his progressions of losing weight and he had almost no belly fat throughout, but more overall distribution. Already thought that was odd. But that explains it! I think it's probably more fat then since I pinch more of a lump instead of thin tissue.

True on that Scott. Thanks :)

The Skinfold caliper is a device which measures the thickness of a fold of your skin with its underlying layer of fat. By doing this at the key locations can be a quite accurate representative of the total amount of fat that is on your body, it is also possible to estimate the total percent of bodyfat on your body.
