    Calorie counting

    Hello,

    My age: 21

    Height: 5'7

    Weight: 82.5 kg

    Fat: 27.5%

    Goal: lean muscle gain while losing fat

    Exercise: I've been doing PHUL for 6 months but have seen no changes, will start doing FBE.

    My BMR at rest is 1900 calories/day, i was wonder if i eat 1600 calories per day while maintaining a high protein intake, will it help me gain lean muscle while losing fat? or do i need to be on a slight surplus?

    Would really appreciate a reply.

    I want to start by saying I'm in no way qualified to answer this and I may be wrong but hopefully I can help. If 1900 calories is what you need at rest have you calculated what you will need on your active days like when you workout as this will be higher. To gain muscle you do need to be in a calorie surplus by about 250-500 calories a day to gain lean muscle if you are already below your rest day calories then you will be below your workout day calories so it will be difficult to gain muscle and that is probably why you are not seeing any changes. I would reccomend:

    Workout what your active/workout day calorie intake needs to be and take the average of both your active and at rest calories and use this as the calories you need to maintain then up it by 250/500 a day that will help you gain the muscle you need.

    I know you want to loose weight and gain muscle but this is very hard to do unless you are nee to working out then it could be possible. But either way I would say your calorie intake is too low.

    Don't you think i should be in a slight deficit considering i have 27% body fat? Or will my bodyfat go down if im on a surplus and gain muscle?
