This is one of the most common questions that most people figure they have answered. Though it is not that easy ! Form is essential for not getting injured aswell as allowing the muscle group that you are supposed to work on do the actual work ! However if you never increase the weight and go a little off perfect form you will never be able to progressively overload your body to make it adapt and become bigger and stronger. So what does this all mean ? It means that if you are familiar with how to lift and you know what flawless form is, and have been working out for about 2-3 years you should be able to slap some weight on ! You don't have to have 100% clean form to still have good form. You can sway a little with your back CONTROLLED AND CONSCIOUSLY (easier said than done, this requires experience and knowledge). Or you can bend your knees and use your legs to get the bar up (using a bicep curls example) to gain momentum to get it up for the last 1-3 reps or so.
To summarize if you are looking to grow then both weight and form matters IF you know what you are doing. (Just remember to not slap so heavy weights on that you will get back pain on doing a biceps exercise...)

Look up some how to videos on youtube (they do excist on Scott's youtube page) and learn how to lift propperly with light weights. As you progress you can chose a weight range you are confertable with to progressively increase your experience and knowledge about lifting. As you become more of an experienced lifter, now it is time to challenge yourself and slap some weights on so you can struggle a bit and break some serios sweat !

Hope this answered some questions for you guyz and ladiez, and have a wonderfull day !! (WHAT ? Yes ladiez are supposed to challenge themselves with some heavier weights aswell)

Totally agree with you William. as long as you don't progressively add weights, results will not exist. If you want to see change, then change.Regarding form I would say, YES, sometime you need to get out of the comfort zone to really pull/push that heavy reps. But make sure you know what you are doing.Gain control over your body by learning to concentrate on the muscle/bodypart you are working on. Dont play around with form unless you are not experienced enough with your body. After all, you are at the gym to stay strong and not to collect injuries :)

Nice and Easy !!

I personally prefer doing dumbbell pressing for chest, but i don't think it makes much difference.

Always, ALWAYS choose good for over heavier weight. For one it will help avoid injuries and secondly if you stick to strict and proper form then you will be able to lift heavier and have good form in the long run!

Well yes, but also keep in mind that challenging yourself is also extremely important, but not to the point where the weights become more important than form

Depends on what you are most comfertable with, I use both as they stimulate different muscle fibers

Great post William! You really know your stuff man! Never sacrifice the amount of weight over proper form! Its okay to go heavy as long as one has a spotter and is maintaing correct form. Besides building muscle is about time under tension (TUT) which means people actually need to lighten the weight a tad, slow the tempo, and focus on squeezing and contracting the muscle for as long and hard as possible instead of trying to train with amounts of weight they cant control and getting injured. :)

Speaking of slapping on the weight, I recently have been having trouble when I get to my bicep curls on the E-Z bar. Its the 3rd lift I do in my routine so my biceps are pretty fatigued by this point but I just can't go up to 60lbs unless i sacrafice a little bit of from and swing my back a bit.

I HATE swinging but I've noticed that even though i sacrafice a little bit of from, it has gotten easier and my biceps have grown from it. Soon I know I'll be strong enough to not have to swing anymore but you're absolutely right, it is ok to sacrafice a little form until your muscled get stronger and handle the weight better.

Ah yeah, sounds good man ! Yeah it is good to use a little cheat form to get stronger so that you can gradually lift the same amount of weight without cheating ! Great progress man

Granted, form is important, but there are exercises you can "cheat" on. Barbell curls and bench are really good for this, as long as you have a spotter! Cheating is good to mix things up when you're body doesn't get that soreness it did when you had great form. I personally do pyramid sets up to my 1RM and work my way down, with my form improving with each 10 pounds I take off it. There are benefits to both, which is why I try to incorporate both, and my arms look MUCH fuller and have a MUCH BETTER peak than what I had.

Hey Kroty3003, I'm just going through and checking out old forum posts to follow up with people asking for advice .

So I'm curious, which did you finally decided to incorporate more of in your chest routine? I personally love to switch it up between the 2 and I LOVE doing my Triple Cable Fly routine! If you haven't seen it yet then here's a link:

Hope you're making all kinds of gains man!

OK. i do a super drop set to start off with dumbells . thats 12-10-10-8 with max 10 secs rest , degresing the weight slightly.

so that will be

(per hand) 70lbs 70lbs 60lbs 60lbs per respective set .

flat bench then 2 sets barbell 150lbs,

incline 3 sets incline dumbell 140 lbs 12-10-8

then ill do do my biceps , all that goes with that,

after biceps and my chest has rested a bit

ill go back and do barbell 3 sets of 5 increasing the weight to as much as i can for those sets . currently 200 - 210-220

i normally fail on the fith rep there .

but thats my chest workout , i like to run burn my chest its my problem area it seams .

but to awnser your question . i like to mix it up nowadays after doing alot of research , each has their own benefits
