Hi everyone !
I just bought myself some Mutant BCAA 9.7 (so 9.7 g of bcaa pr serving) AND I have 5.5 g of bcaa in my optimum nutrition protein. I take about 1-2 scoops of protein a day and 1 scoop of bcaa. I do not have any experience myself with BCAAs, therefore i am asking here: How much is to much ? What is the optimal amount ?

William,

There really isn't too much BCAAs one can take. Out of all the 9 essential amino acids, BCAAs are the most important. Leucine alone is the most anabolic of all the amino acids and BCAAs. The key metric with them is the proper ratio. Most BCAA supplements and protein powders have the right ratios. However, when you mix them, you may offset this ratio. The ratio is critical for proper absorption and use of BCAAs as they work in conjunction with each other not independently.

The optimal ratio is 2:1:1 Leucine:Isoleucine:Valine. I wouldn't exceed 4:1:1 because you get diminishing returns and it can get costly from a supplement perspective.
