In November 2012, I had a stroke and started having episodes of atrial fibrillation. I discovered I have a genetic mutation called MTHFR that causes early atherosclerosis, heart disease and stroke. Just after Christmas of the same year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had several surgeries, 16 rounds of chemotherapy and 33 radiation treatments. I spiraled into a deep depression, and my weight ballooned. By October of 2015, I weighed 300 pounds. I started walking on my own and lost 35 pounds. At the beginning of February, 2016, I joined a gym and started working with a personal trainer. My weight dropped and I fell in love with strength training and exercise in general. I'm currently at 174 pounds and have started running. I plan to do a sprint triathlon in August. I joined this site to learn more. I want to continue my adventures with getting stronger, inside and out.
