About Me

Hi Everyone. My name is Eddie and I am 59 years old. Last year around this time (April) I developed a condition in my legs called Lymphedema. It then got infected and ended up with a type of Cancer called Kaposi's Sarcoma. I was in a wheelchair for 2 months. Then I went to Crutches and a Knee Scooter. That wasn't good enough and acceptable for me. I found a device called a IWalk. Which is like a Pirate's Peg leg. I wore that and got back to work in the kitchen which I manage. After 3 months of Physical Therapy, I was walking with a cane. This still was unacceptable for me. The Doctors told me I would walk without a cane at some point, but were doubtful that I would be able to run again. I proved them wrong. I went to a local gym and have a great trainer who was very impressed that I was there to start working out. As at this time I could walk slowly on a treadmill, he started me with some free weights and sparring. I fell in love with the sparring because it got my Cardio up that I couldn't do at the time from walking or running. Then I went on vacation. I just kept at it and spent 6 weeks in Florida this past winter. I started to feel better and was walking 4 miles in the morning and 2.5 in the afternoon. When I returned I got on the treadmill and was walking 40 minutes at 3.9 MPH and now am running the last 3 minutes on the treadmill at 6.3 MPH. After getting back with my trainer he couldn't believe how I great I was doing. One day after our workout he told me that I was doing so great. And I said to him..." Better and Stronger Everyday from now on." And that is my Mantra I recite to myself all day long. My trainer was so impressed with my drive, he had this sweatshirt made up for me that says "Better and Stronger Everyday". What a great guy ! It Really was very heart felt. I have always been a advocate of alternative medicine and herbs. I take quite a few supplements and have 3 herbal tinctures to help with the cancer and keep my immune system up to par. Anyway, when I was in Florida and needed some tips or a refresher on form on exercise techniques, I googled and found Scott Herman. I like your positive, supportive attitude and approach Scott. I just felt comfortable listening to you and your detail in your work. So you became my "go to guy" while I was away from my trainer. I am now doing a mix of TRX, Free Weights, and Sparring. I have joined here to expand my personal knowledge of diet and options of different methods of training to see what everyone else is doing. I encourage everyone that no matter what gets in your way, You can overcome it through will power and determination. I want to be the most in shape guy and get better by my next birthday which I will turn 60. Thanks everyone and look forward to hanging out here.
