About Me

In March of 2016 I was at the heaviest I've ever been at 242lbs. I tricked myself into thinking that since I roller skated 2 hours a day 3x a week that I was relatively healthy. (I referee roller derby) At this point I was having trouble breathing when tying my shoes and was feeling very sluggish in general. When I stepped on the scale and saw 242 my heart sank. I knew I needed to change. I googled, "how many calories should I eat to lose weight" and used an online calorie calculator and started using MyFitnessPal to track my calories. It was an eye opening experience. I first started by just sticking to tracking calories and going for walks on my lunch breaks. As I was seeing progress, I incorporated running using the Couch to 5K program. By December of 2016 I was down about 50lbs. I got a little lazy and less strict and gained about 10-15lbs. I remember my boss telling me I'd have a 6-pack in no time and I said, "I'll never get there, that's too much work." Funny that now I'm working on goal of having some nice abs! In January I decided I didn't just want to be skinnier, I wanted to be stronger and have the kind of body and muscles I've always dreamed of. So I joined a gym and started lifting for the first time in my life (aside from a handful of times in gym class in high school). I immediately started seeing a trainer because I had no idea what to do, or how to do it, and I didn't want to injure myself or be going in with no plan and not see any real results. I started working with my trainer 1x a week and going a few other days a week with workouts provided by her. About 6 months in I upped it to seeing her 2x a week. I currently see my trainer 2x a week and go 3 other days a week using a workout plan provided by her. Though this year I've watched a lot of YouTube fitness videos. There are only a few people I follow that seem to give real information. You are the one I go to most often. Your videos have provided inspiration when I've been feeling less inspired, and I've been able to incorporate many tips you've given to improve my workouts. Coming up in the summer of 2018 my roommate will be moving out and my money will be tighter. At that point, since I'll be in a tighter financial situation and since I'm feeling more and more comfortable and confident at the gym every day I'll probably have to stop seeing my trainer. When I do, my plan is to start using the12 week push/pull/legs program!
