About Me

Been around 200lbs my whole life, I noticed suddenly dec 2014 I had made it up to 285lbs in just under 5 years. I honestly did not realise, I was drinking too much, smoking, eating unhealthy, playing games 24/7 and generally doing everything wrong if I wanted to be healthy. One day my knee gave out in the shower, at the same time my doctor was telling me my liver test was showing signs of fatty liver. I was surprised, I mean I still thought I was 14 stone, in my mid 20's and with the metabolism to match at this point. But it opened my eyes to what I had become. So I decided to go on my current journey. Get healthy! I started in Dec 2014, at first I started by cutting out fizzy pop replacing it with water. I actually thought I had something wrong with me so went to the doctor complaining about having to pee all the time, it turns out my body was just not used to it. Then by about February I had dropped about 15 lbs just from cutting out the fizzy pop and alcohol alone so I decided to take it a step further. I went and made a record of all the food I was putting into my body and did this for around two months, both counting the calories and macros and adjusting it accordingly till I am at where I am today eating around 1800 calories a day while getting a good proportional % of my daily macros and all the vitamins and minerals my body needs. With this step taken to change everything going into my body I took the next one in may/June 2014 and I started walking. It was not far at first, I had been stuck to my computer for nearly a decade and wow was I out of shape! I started off small, walking 500 metres the first day then maybe 850 metres the next. I live in the country so I have some great nature trails I can follow so I picked the one I felt most comfortable with and decided that I would head out and try and get a bit further each and every day. By the end of June early July 2014 I was walking the full length of the mile trail plus the half a mile it took me to get to it from my house. This was great but I wanted more! I started exploring, each time I went out I would head in a random direction checking side roads and the little winding lanes around my area. Eventually I found a nice walk that went round the whole of my town totaling about 7 miles in full. It was now about mid August and I decided to go for it, I walked the howl route in one go, I had done it! It was a fantastic feeling, from virtually living on a sofa and being unable to walk 500 meters without feeling like I would collapse or have a heart attack and feeling ever so weak to feeling strong, healthy and like I could take on the world. The next day I decided to do this walk in the pouring rain, wearing wellington boots and carrying 10 liters of bottled water in a backpack... I made it but it really showed me I had a long way to go still. I started experimenting with packs of 2liter bottled water as weights, doing whatever exercises I could manage. I also had a rowing machine laying around from a previous failed but good intentioned attempt to get fit. I started small, 1x2liter bottle and a 5min row. I incorporated this into my walking routine and slowly built it up over time until I was doing curls with the whole 8 liters of water and managing 30min none stop rows. I was getting stronger by the day and my confidence, energy levels and overall well-being was improving. for my birthday I had asked for a weights bench which I gratefully received of my mother. Nothing fancy but it was a start. Since towards the end of August I skipped paying my rent to buy myself a full vinyl weights set 52kg. Naughty but worth it, I luckily have an understanding landlord! Well I got to work with it right away, it was big, it was awkward to use but it was just what I needed to get started. I watched Many youtube Videos including Scotts which were incredibly helpful! I devised a workout routine that fit my body's natural rhythm. 3 days on 1 rest day then 3 days on again and just repeat that. On the first day I do legs, the second chest and back and the third day I do shoulders and arms. It works for me and I am seeing great results. I have now been doing this routine none stop since the end of August, it is now November and my rowing machine just had its gear break, I had something like 60k total rows on it since around July/August so I am not surprised. I have just replaced it with more walking although it is not quite as intense a cardio it will do for now until I can find a replacement. I also skipped paying my rent again (I am working on practicing my saving instead of this method!) in October and bought myself a set of cast iron Dumbells 40kg and a door gym. The weights were just what I needed, I was outgrowing the old set already and now I have a mix of 90kg of weights to lift. I also got myself a squat/bench rack to keep myself safer while using these increasing weights. Now at the moment my 'gym' is set up in my bedroom and I have my bed in the living room. I am also getting to the point where I need to hit a real gym, especially since my only intense cardio in the form of my rower broke. These are tings I am currently working around as best I can but I am still sticking to my routine, still staying strong and the weight is still falling off me and I am getting some crazy newbie gains. All in all I am really happy I got into this while I am still relatively young and before any irreversible health complications arose due to my unhealthy lifestyle. I quit smoking in September and I have not had a beer since August, but I may celebrate a little to bring in the new year and if all goes to plan I should hit my goal weight of 200lbs in Nay nxt year and I will definitely be having a drink to celebrate! So yeah that is my story with exercise, I have done all that while fighting mental illness (I have mixed personality disorders) and being unable to work as a result. I found out about these around August 2014. Before this it had been misdiagnosed as Depression for years. So I suppose finding out what was really wrong with me started me on this journey initially but exercise and fitness has been the foundation to getting better that I needed. Winter is setting in now but I still keep my hopes up thanks to doing the work, knowing I am working my ass off to improve my body and as a result it is keeping my mind positive.I still do not work, but I think I can get there if I keep a healthy body and healthy (as possible lol) mind. Special thanks so Scott for his amazing videos and how he motivates people with them. He told me to come and check the site out when I commented on a video where he was suing the very same door gym I had purchased so here I am and I thought I would share some bits of my story so far :)
