Hi,

So I love doing body weight exercises due to the sheer variation you can put into them. While bench presses for example you can incline, decline, but you still have form restrictions. With push-ups for example you can position your hands different for a different effect.

I was thinking about getting myself a weighted vest for these body weight exercises and running. Though I was wondering what vests would be advised by people who use them or know about them and what weight to use (I see vests going from 4kg up to 120+LBS). (what I would prefer is changable weights so I can avoid plateaus, if possible a wash-able vest to keep it clean, and available to Europe)

I'm 1m84, 71kg, 20yo. I wouldn't know my dumbell weight capabilities since I rarely used weights the last 2 years and when I do use dumbells I go with low-weight 14 kg ones and high reps.

So if anybody has some info about weighted vests and what weightrange would be advisable, feel free to help me out!

Hey man.

I have no personal experience using weighted vests, but have had an interest in getting one just incase I ever wanted to increase the intensity of my workouts.

They are certainly a great way to force yourself to dig deeper no matter what you're doing, and if your goal is to gain weight, it will prepare your body for being able to continue doing what you currently do because you are training above your actual weight. It will also mean that after a while, body weight exercises will become much easier, and you will be able to perform more reps, for say push ups, pull-ups or dips. Plus, if you use it for cardio, that will eventually become easier too, and you will be able to make impressive progress in th intensity of your training both with and without the vest on.

Anyway, I found this vest here: http://www.mirweightedvest.com/air-flow-weighted-vest/MiR-50Lbs-Air-Flow-Weighted-Vest.html

It is machine washable, and can even go in the dryer.

It can hold a total of 50lbs (approx. 23kg), and you can increase the weight in lots of 3lbs (approx. 1.5kg). This means you have plenty of variation to work with, depending on how much weight you can handle on the vest while still being able to train.

Let me know what you think about it, and whether this is the type of vest you were looking for.

#HTH!

Yep, that's the kind I mean! Thanx for the reply btw!

Is there a difference in the 'short' and 'long' version you see around? I'd say if you can strap it tightly around your waiste and below your pecs you'd be alright with weight carrying distribution.

Though my biggest concern would be, "what weight should I buy" (not use at the start of course). Because the past showed me I made fast progress with both bodyweight exercises as dumbell/barbell exercises.

I found a nice 30kg vest (http://www.amazon.de/Lex-Quinta-Gewichtsweste-Heavy-Duty/dp/B00FJZZ2N6/ref=pd_cp_sg_0) which is ship-able to my country. And it looks like the famour MiR ones (though half the price, so I'm wondering about quality). Do you think this would be a good investment? (same as the MiR you linked it has 1.5kg incrimentals, secure fitting so they don't drop out during dive bomber pushups and the like, and the material looks solid)

Edit: giving my numbers again in this post for reference on the weight to get: 1m84, 71kg, 20yo

Hey @NoWay.

I think either vest would probably be fine. I can't read the language on the link you gave, so I hope you can haha. If the 30kg one has 1.5kg increments, and you find that would be better, then go for that one, especially if that's more affordable. You will probably get a near identical use from either vest.

I don't think it matters too much where it straps around you - as long as it fits tight and secure, it should be all good.

As for which weight you should bu in regards to your own weight, if the vest is able to be adjusted in 1.5kg increments, then you can have it really light, moderate or at its heaviest right? So its not at just a set weight. However, if you thought 30kg is too much, there is also this 10kg one: http://www.amazon.de/dp/B005KSMV22?psc=1

My pleasure bro!

No doubt you will be TEARING IT UP even more when you get your hands on a vest!

Something I have been thinking about doing is getting a 20 pound weighted vest and wearing it all the time.

It's just enough weight to not be unbearable to wear all day, but not too light.

Could be worth a try. You could wear it during all your lifts as well so you almost trick yourself when doing deadlifts and squats and try to forget about the extra 20lbs
