Hello I am Nikos from Greece. I m 25 Years old and My english is really bad though lol but i ll try

i Got Kyphosis 69 Degrees of Kyphosis and Scoliosis 25 ( which is not visable ).

That Ugly Back Posture always made me sad and i hate my upper body posture like for years.

i Didnt recognize kyphosis when i was a kid neither my parents did so obviously i could fix it back then when i was 15 with a brace or something but i didnt know.

Anyway i been to doctors to ask for a solution Some of them said Surgery some of them Said DONT U EVER DO IT.

I dont have Pain its just aesthetics that i hate.

Now They said to me that since i m 25 i wont ever have any Success fixing it cause i m older than 18 so my body does not develop anymore.

Some Guy That i found by luck in youtube told me that he fixed it over here. he showed me pics of his back before and after kyphosis exercises and told me to create a thread over here.

I ll post pics soon just can somebody answer me if is it possible to "fix " Kyphosis i dont mean completely fixed i m just saying Fixed enough so i can be more Straight when i stand up. Thank you

I am no expert here @Cablaze25, so don't take my word for it.

But I believe you can IMPROVE your kyphosis, however it may also depend on just how advanced/bad it is.

By doing stretches it may help somewhat re-align your spine, as well as maybe just practicing good posture in general.

Maybe @Whisper will be able to give you more detailed advice, he is pretty clever with this sort of stuff

Hey man,

Yea as Jordan said I can help you here for sure.

You can most definitely fix kyphosis and lordosis but it takes time, patience and persistence.
I will give you the advice, but you should post 2 pictures of yourself below so that I can see how bad it actually is. A picture from the back and a picture from the side should do. Stay relaxed and have somebody take the pictures for you.

First of all, you say you have no pain, but in most cases the pain comes when you re older. It almost always comes eventually. So its better to fix it now that you are young.

To fix your spine's alignment you need to be doing two things :

1) Fixing the mechanical aspect of it by stretching and strengthening the correct muscle groups. STRETCHING the quads, hip flexors, lower back, chest, upper traps/neck muscles and STRENGTHENING the lower traps, thoracic extensors, glutes, hamstrings, ABDOMINALS and rear delts.

2) Fixing the psychosomatic aspect of it. Yea it also psychological. You need to let go of your stress and move freely in life. Start a yoga class, start a martial arts class, anything that can help you stretch and relax. Bodybuilding is not so nice when it comes to postural issues. It actually makes matters worse because it makes you tense and rigid, you lose flexibility and mobility and your kyphosis gets worse and worse.

Thats it for now, get those pictures up and we ll get into more detail.

Ok yea, it LOOKS bad but its not as serious as you might think. You can definitely fix this within 12-18 months. I think we should take it one step at a time.

All problems start at the core of your body (abs/low back/glutes area). Fix the problem there (lordosis) and your other problems will fix themselves automatically (kyphosis and cervical lordosis)

So start by doing the following :

- Stretch your lower back several times a day. 3-4 sets of 2 minute stretches should be enough. Best lower back stretches to do are :

1) Sit on a chair, grab your feet and slighlty pull your body towards your feet. You should feel a nice stretch in your lower back
2) Lie with your back on the floor. You will notice you are able to fit your hand behind your lower back. This shouldnt happen. The lower back must be flat on the floor. There must be no room between the lower back and the floor. Keep this position for 2 minutes, then rest and repeat 3 more times, several times a day.

3) Now as you are lying on the floor, pull your knees to your chest or have someone do that for you (push your knees into your chest). Round your lower back as muscle as possible.

- Try to maintain a good posture every day. Dont slouch your back when you are sitting. Dont stick your butt out when you are standing or sitting. Your general problem is that you stick your butt out too much. That creates the hyperlordosis issue, which in turns, creates the kyphosis issue. So it starts from the core.

Begin by doing these, and update this forum thread regurarly. After 2-3 weeks you should be noticing some serious difference. Take pictures of yourself (relaxed) every week or so because you will NOT be able to tell the difference otherwise (because its so slow).

Thanks you for the help. I will do it but is there any videos of these 3 exercises just to confirm the form and not wasting time by doing them wrong? Can i find any video of those?

Well those are stretches number 1 and number 3. As for the 2nd stretch, I cant find a picture or video, but I think its pretty easy. You just flatten your lower back on the floor.

Hello there, i have head of good results with foamrolling to help with kyphosis.

Here is a good sum up about kyphosis and some exercises with a foamroller in the end.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXdP19xB_hE

Also as he states in the video too.. every stretching exercise or foamrolling etc which you can only do so-and-so many minutes each day, will not make up for the "bad posture" you have the rest of the day.

Thus it is really important that you will start reminding yourself all few minutes to sit straight again, take your shoulders back and move your neck back. Same with walking, you will need to become aware of how you walk and actually try to correct and walk upright. Shoulders back, glutes pulled in, chest out etc etc.

I have a bhit of Kyphosis myself. And i can tell you it's hard work to remind yourself all the time on how to sit / how to walk, but the longer you practice it the more your muscles and nervous system will become used to it and be able to hold the position on its own, until it hopefully becomes the natural standard position again in the end.

Here is another interesting and helpful article on that matter: http://www.dynamicchiropractic.com/mpacms/dc/article.php?id=55374

They explain also a bit what strength exercises you should focus on when doing weight training, such as the lower laterals etc.

Hope this helps!

Cheers :)

You don't need surgery to cure spine problems

these days there are other ways how one can regenerate the spine muscle such as cell repair technology
