Lack of Sleep Makes me Ravenous

Need to eat exorbitant amounts when running on little sleep

I have kids, and one is a toddler who needs to wake up at midnight each night, rush into the bed with the wife and me, and try his best to snuggle us off the bed. Though cute, this creates a dozen moments a night where I am waken, must shuffle myself and toddler into a more comfortable position, and then try to get back to sleep. The resulting lack of sleep on the worst of days will crank my hunger to 11.

Does anyone else deal with this?

I don't deal with this.. but I can imagine it's a struggle for a lot of people. For curbing hunger.. have you thought about sipping on BCAAs during the day? Or even chewing gum? Drinking more water? Little things like that will help fight off hunger and without adding calories 😊

Haven't heard about using BCAA's during the day, so will definitely try that one on the hard days along with water. Thx!

This is a common side effect of raised Cortisol levels. When your sleep is constantly interrupted, your body has increased stress and can't recharge itself. This causes Cortisol to spike which can increase food cravings - especially for sweet stuff/carbs. This is a challenging scenario because Cortisol is part of your "figh or flight" response to stress. This causes decreased testosterone levels, fat burning levels, and increases body fat retention and fluid retention thus raising blood pressure. With high hunger and "uncontrolled" eating and/or eating the wrong foods, higher bodyfat and body weight levels will ensue.

Happy to help! Water is surprisingly good, and BCAAs are just a good way to mix up the flavor a little bit if you ever feel the need for some variety 😁
