As we all know, Brown rice is pretty bland by itself. But I made some "Buffalo brown rice" (or at least that what I'm calling it) and would like to know what you guys think - I'm a little worried that the sodium may be a little high but how much of a negative role does it play in an active lifestyle?

1 cup dry, uncooked long grain brown rice - cook as directed

Sauce (which I drizzle over grilled chicken breast and use the rest for the rice):

1/4 cup Frank's Red Hot

3/4tsp minced garlic

3/4tsp garlic powder

3/4tsp distilled white vinegar

1-1/2tsp Lemon Juice

3/4tsp unsalted butter

I just microwave the sauce until the butter is melted then add it to my food. I split the one pound chicken breast and brown rice into two containers and eat it for lunch and dinner.

Macros per meal are approximately 752cal, 78g Protein, 12g Fat, 72.5g Carbs with around 2100mg of sodium.

is this okay or am I hurting my gains here?

Thanks a lot for any and all help guys!

Ben

Ben

Sodium can cause clogged arteries if it is consumed excessively. Thus it is recommended not to eat to much of it regardless of how active one is.

What do you mean hurt your gains ? It is impossible to judge your gains based on one or two meals and without knowing how much you train and all of your total macros.

The question is more about what you think of the recipe itself - is it an okay way to spice up my brown rice or should i look for an alternative?

Seems like an OK way to spice things up.. depends what your total sodium count comes to for the day if you include this. Once every now and then would be OK.. I'm a bit surprised at the sodium count being that high actually, you're not even using a full teaspoon of any of those ingredients. Where is all the sodium coming from?
