Headline: UK adults eating 100 million convenience meals a week, study finds

British adults are at an "increased cancer risk" from eating a staggering 100 million fast food and takeaway meals every week, according to a new report. Young adults are seven times more likely than over-65s to eat fast food, microwave meals, pizzas and chips at least once a week, according to the study by Cancer Research UK. The report shows that men are more likely to indulge in ready meals, sweets and soft drinks than women - with more than 55% tucking into convenience food at least once a week, compared to 44% of women. Overall, UK adults consume up to 300 calories more than the recommended daily amount.

Now, I am sure that Scott will read this with horror and ask "What is the UK Government doing about this?" but before he does, I'd like to ask him to take the following into consideration. The UK voting age population (people aged over 18) is 46,500,001. If the UK is indeed eating 100 million fast food meals a week, that means that on average every voting age person is eating 2.19 fast food meals a week out of a total of no more than 28 meals a week. Is it me or does that actually sound not too bad?

I mean, it absolutely depends on how awful the meals are.

If I ate two large meatlovers pizzas/week that would destroy my metabolism and make me feel slow. However, when I indulge in jalapeño poppers or crisscut fries or a bit of pizza, usually on Sunday, it's really not that big a deal. Particularly because i still make it fit in my macros and shift the rest of my diet around so I'm just messing up my micronutrients and probably eating a LOT more fat and salts than I should.

I would say as a rule of thumb, giving yourself a cheat meal every week or a cheat day every two/three weeks is the best way to make sure you stick to your diet because you won't want to destroy your progress if you're going to cheat soon anyway. y'feel?

So maybe it's not that bad, but it could be really bad. I would need a lot more info to really make an informed statement.

There is no surprise here. This is the same in the U.S and has spread globally. All packaged and process foods contain the same cancer-inducing and supportive environment:

1) Loaded with added sugar - especially High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) which is a metabolic poison that destroys the liver and fuels cancer cells.

2) No healthy fats and cholesterol. Fat and cholesterol regulate hormones, cellular repair, and fats are an alternative fuel source which cancer cells can't use

3) BPA loaded packaging - BPA is a powerful endocrine disruptor and mimics estrogen in both men and women.

4) Loaded with preservatives and food colorings and additives and processed salt.

5) Highly refined grains as food sources as well as hormone and anti-biotic filled meat.

6) GMO-sourced vegetables and grains.

This is just scratching the surface. Food is engineered not only to increase shelf life and profits but also to re-wire the dopamine centers of your brain to addict you to this trash in the exact same way cocaine, heroin, nicotine, and alcohol create addiction/dependance. The bottom line is this "food" is not nutritious and causes serious damage to the body even after regularly eating it for 10 days. Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver disease, diabetes II, and metabolic syndrome are all appearing in people in their early 20's now. I seriously doubt the average Millennial is stopping at 2.19 fast food meals per week.

To add insult to injury, fast food companies are scamming the public by saying they are removing additives and using antibiotic-free meat, etc. Subway just got caught in that their 100% antibiotic-free chicken is actually only 50% chicken and the rest is soy filler - from GMO-sourced soy. HFCS is still included in all fast food as only trans-fats have been prohibited by the U.S. government. The saying "haste makes waste" applies to nutrition. If it is quick, cheap, and convenient, it will also be a quick, cheap, and convienent way to health problems later on.

great topic and very informative, Here in Pakistan there is the same problem people like to eat more of these fast foods several times in a week. infact people working in offices are developing habits to feed on fast foods as their lunch because it doesnt require any additional platters and spoons to deal with after meals time and it also enables them to munch on their cheesy burgers and work on computer at the same time. Some workplaces dont even have proper dining areas so people have to eat on their desks which is encouraging them to eat fast foods. here some popular fast food brands are McDonalds, KFC, Subway,Fat Burger, Sizzlers, Pizza hut, Dominos and many other small brands of burgers, fried foods, pizzas. Before I started watching my diet I used to feel very dull lazy and there was always pain in my feet and knees due to overweight and suffered from bad digestive system, eversince I have started eating more fresh foods whole grains minimal processed foods and exercise daily I feel great like never before. We have to make awareness globally to overcome this suicidal eating habits.
