He’s fat and is likely to be so until he dies. He lifts 4x week and does cardio 5x week(30 mins 4x week after lifting, 60 mins one day a week devoted to cardio alone)

All he’s doing now is beating the crap out of himself with nothing to show for it. He can’t meet his own expectations and they’re not that high.No way he can match anyone else’s.

If he keeps going he might have a heart attack – he doesn’t see a downside to this. He’s done – He’s done for. Worse, he no longer cares. If he keeps his blood work decent maybe that will be a win.

Old enough to know better, young enough not to care. I'm an eternal rookie - As soon as I stop learning I start dying.

Hi there,

1.) Never give up

2.) Never give up

This journey is for the enjoyment of the sport / time out from a busy schedule so much more than just results alone - it's a mental clensing.

What are your goals, I'm new here so I don't know them. How old are you presently? You understand as we age our test levels drop and as a result transforming our body becomes harder?

Wish you the best, don't chuck in the towel.

I'm not in it for the sport (not that bodybuilding is a sport) - trying to be healthy.

I'm 52 and started when I was 50 and have gone from 350 lbs to 186 lbs. I'm also on TRT so I'm well aware of testosterone levels (unlike a lot of folks here who claim natty)

What I am is frustrated and depressed. Eventually I'll get throught it. I'm too stubborn and stupid not to. Just need to get back in control of my diet again.

There are times where we slam into a wall head on and can't seem to wrap our heads around what is going on. Or we let our mind play tricks on us by second guessing where we are and how far we've come. I'm not into fitness or weights as a sport either ... its more of a way of life. I carry a picture of what I looked like the day my son was born and how I look now. I've had great success and I've had set backs but I don't let it hold me down. I look and see where I was and think of where I am going. Its not the getting there, its the journey. The set backs are learning experiences and the achievements are triumphs. You've come a long ways, don't let it get you down.

I agree with everyone. Stick with it. The frustration and depression are temporary speed bumps. You have also done a significant thing for your health by dropping down to 186 pounds which is not an easy thing to do. As you are in this for health not bodybuilding and physique modeling, don't throw away all you have done to date. You and I are the same age - though I have been lifting much much longer. Regardless, the benefits outweigh the occassional frustration this journey can produce.

As for diet, you have seen my posts on the subject. I am a bit Draconian in this regard but it is because you can't outlift a bad diet and it becomes so much more critical once you reach our age. This is the argument I have with my own father who goes to the gym but then still eats like a teenager and undoes all he did at the gym. He is more comfortable just taking whatever pill the doctor pushes on him to compensate for his nutritional laziness. I do not subscribe to this mantra and my training and health have improved dramatically since I embraced a strict uncompromised nutrition plan.
