Due to severe problems in my feet I have to avoid any sort of cardio that includes like constant impact of my feet with the ground such as Running and boxing (my 2 favourite cardio forms which i have to give up :( ).

The doctor highly recommended cycling rather than swimming as swimming isnt as accessible and one may not tend to workout as hard in the pool. I know there are other alternatives such as air-walker and stairs machine but I tend to find the air-walker rather boring and i've never come across a stairs machine, and hence limiting my choice. Apart from that, i do some tabata but i like varying from time to time, as constantly sticking to the weights and all may get rather irritating and i'd love some sort of change (hence y i loved boxing and running).

So my question here is, is cycling a good and efficient form of cardio (especially if i avail of an interval training style) are there any hermanites that apply cycling in their cardio and prgoram regime? How does that person apply cycling, is it effective?

Thanks, look forward to hearing your comments :).

If anyone has an alternative please, id love to hear it.

as for cycling it's know for low impact sport as well swimming

let me tell u my opinion long cardio sission whether it's on bike or running it will not give u wieght loss result i am not telling u to stop it but there are not effective as sprinting

cycking sprint could be even better as it low impact i used to do cycling session during my foot injury i sweat a lot and get my cardio on the right direction

for swimming i would say it is not bad choice at all i woundered why wouldn't u add it to your routine ? swimming is always good for rehab any injury even better for your feet and it can produce good resul if it done correctly as example you can combine bodyweight and swimming in intense interval training

David,

Too much emphasis is put on cardio in many people's minds in my opinion. To lose weight and body fat, you need 2 things:

1) A caloric deficit

2) Increased calorie burn.

You can accomplish both with your meal plan and your exercise regiment. The meal plan part should be self explanatory - run a 250-500 daily calorie deficit by restricting your macros and/or manipulating carbs.

As for your training, if you increase your workout intensity by doing super-sets, drops sets, burn sets and reduce your rest time between sets and exercises you will burn many more calories. I have been able to drop my bodyfat by over 10% and increase lean muscle mass without any cardio at all just by doing full body workouts and keeping my workouts (4 muscles groups each) to around 60 minutes. My fitness watch consistently shows I burn around 1000 calories per workout and my heart rate stays in the 125-132 bpm range. You would have to run, bike, or swim for an hour or more to burn 1000 calories.

The choice is yours whether to rely on cardio or not. I just know you can combine the 2 as part of your workouts.

Stationary cycling certainly can help. I would recommend doing short quick burst throughout the workout to really accelerate your heart rate. On the other hand I don't see how your doctor stated swimming can't be as effective. Swimming is

Cycling with quick burst of acceleration will certainly help to boost you heart rate and burn some calories. The idea is to boost your heart rate rather than be able read a book while doing it. Find you a good bike to track your heart rate and burned calories.
