how do guys react to this? let's say you have 4 sets 8 reps on the exercise you're doing and you just cant get 8 reps on a set,you just leave it there?rest and continue on the next one? i have a friend who's doing 8 rep training like me,and sometimes he fails to finish the set, let's say he drops it at 5 reps,he rests for like 2-3 seconds and does the 3 reps that he couldnt do,does this seem right?

yeah that is what I do. I give myself a 5 - 10 seconds MAX rest to finish the reps. Or if I have a spotter, I will have him help me with forced reps

George,
"Yes", I do the same thing. These are pause reps and give a little extra time for the Type IIb fibers to recover. If I have to do 10 reps, I don't stop until I do even if I have to take a couple of quick pauses :-)

i totally agree with Scott and Jmboiardi answers, and the same thing happens to me too, if im doing like 15 reps on a set and if i stop at say 10 reps , i pause for about 3-5 seconds, and i complete the 15reps , but... if i feel that i took to long of a pause and i feel i have enough energy then i will throw in like 2 more reps on that set. the way i see it is dont give up , finish that set, rest if need be or reduce the weight by a little so that you complete the set. :) take care, have fun and grow strong
