Skull crushers emphasize the long and lateral head. Depending how you do them you can shift more emphasis onto the long head (by using an incline and shifting your arms more overhead, as opposed to on a flat bench starting with your arms at 90 degrees). Skull crushers isolate the triceps.

For compound exercises, any press will do the trick. Bench, incline, decline, military, push ups, etc. You can get more emphasis on your triceps with certain compounds. A close grip bench will be more of a tricep exercise. A dip where you keep your body as upright as possible makes it more of a tricep, and less of a chest exercise. Close grip press and dips happen to be my favorite compound exercises for triceps. For isolation, I like extensions with a rope, overhead extension with a dumbbell, and of course skull crushers.

Johnny has given you some great suggestions! The best compounds specifically for your triceps are going to be dips and close-grip bench press. I actually did a VS video with both of those which you can check out if you like, I'll post it below.

Skullcrushers are mainly a long head exercise for your tricep (which is the biggest tricep head), but it will hit a bit of the other heads as well.. just not as well as the two compounds would. I love including skullcrushers in my workouts as more of an isolation movement though!

Of course! You can do things like a svend press, single-arm cable chest pushdowns, dumbbell pullovers. Obviously you have things like chest dips too, although I guess you wouldn't totally call that an isolation exercise. But yeah there is definitely more than just flys!

Yeah definitely! Not too often though. Stick with a solid program for 8-12 weeks (or until you hit a plateau with it) before you think about switching things up.

You can overload more because the range of motion is shortened. I suggest just doing them regularly on a bench or incline bench so that you still get full ROM. If you want to overload, use Cheat & Recover by using heavy dumbbells and controlling them on the eccentric (negatives).

You can do it on the floor, or with a regular fly on a bench - remember on the bench, you still get full ROM. Just make sure you have warmed-up properly, you're retracting your shoulder blades, and don't go REALLY crazy with the weight.

And if you're new to the exercise or have a hard time engaging your chest, you can start on the floor and work your way up to a regular/incline bench.

Hey guys so Scott suggested that the incline bench press and chest dip can be the two chest exercises that we need to build a chest. However every time i do chest or tricep dip, i feel pain in my left shoulder and cannot perform the exercise correctly. Is it normal to feel this pain? Is there any substitute for both types dip?

It might just mean that you need to work a little bit more on your shoulder mobility. If you aren't already, do the warm-ups in the video below before EVERY workout session. And for now with your dips, only goes as low as your mobility will allow (without pain), as you work on improving your mobility.

It may be cause of my shoulder mobility but i only think that it's cause of shoulder fatigue since its a push day and dips is one of my last exercises. I was thinking about switching the chest dip with 5 sets bench press, 3 sets decline and 3 sets incline chest fly. I'm trying to minimise the amount of exercises and smash them with many sets.

Yeah shoulder fatigue might be playing a part too. But definitely start working on mobility more if you aren't already. You can play around with the exercises if you like and you might find something that works better for you - it's good that you are minimizing your exercises and hitting them with more sets! Maybe even do 5 sets for each of the 3 exercises for 15 sets total?
